Clarificatin please

    Travlin,

Intriguing thread, I love this kind of stuff. However, personally I have kicked my “preparations” just recently into high gear and I cannot help but risk sounding like a buzzkill…

How does this really affect any of us? What can we do about it, or how can we use it to our advantage some way?

I am asking in all seriousness, and not with the intention of being critical.

I would like to respond to your request, but I’m not sure I understand just what you are seeking. I could do a better job if you could be a little more specific about your question, “How does this really affect any of us?” By “this” do you mean my initial post, or the broader situation, or something else? I’ll be happy to reply when I’m sure I accurately understand the question.

      KevoWelcome to the forums.

Welcome to the forums. You’ve posed a good question. I haven’t heard of this before but it sounds like it is probably correct. The IMF is a product of many nations acting cooperatively and supposedly acts as a “development” bank. Others say is is a mechanism to extract wealth from poor countries, and bind them with unpayable debts. They are now making noises about establishing a world currency of Special Drawing Rights facilitated through their accounts. So sure, they would want to prohibit a gold standard.

Thanks so much for telling us your story and your experience here in the early days. Mine is very similar, but I was late to see the signs and join the party. I’m very glad to be here now in such good company.

When you think about it the whole concept of sex is pretty hilarious. It’s best to just laugh and enjoy it. The rest of life too, when you can.

Nice video. For the benefit of us fossils, how do you post the video instead of just a link? You did that for me once before and I’d like to know how to do it myself.

      Listen to Rihter
I want to offer an exercise in “outside the box” thinking.

How does the death of growth effect the core argument of the use of tax dollars? I would argue using any fund to continuously pave roads, we can’t afford to sustain long term, is wasteful. Tax dollars and their allocation needs to be redefined without the definition being determined by the traditional right/left established paradigms. <snip>

Now these are just surface arguments, but I wanted to stick to them for sake of the thread. If you really want to dive into the exercise you need to ask even deeper, core questions. What role does currency play post growth? Banks? Brokerage firms? Brokers, Salesman, distribution, ….the rabbit hole gets deep quick!
Listen up folks! Rihter is right on. Rearranging deck chairs is a poor use of resources as the ship takes on water.

… can you keep a dwarf tree permanently in a container? We have very limited space and dh has always been against trees in containers because he thinks you eventually have to plant them. Is it just a matter of keeping them pruned? Does it work for other than citrus?

Check out this link for bonzai. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonzai_tree This is an extreme application, but I think the principle is the same.

What about towns? Are there any prohibitions against towns issuing their own currency?

No. Anyone can issue their own currency, including you. The problem is to to get people to accept it, because they can’t be US dollars. That would get you a long expense paid vacation at Club Fed. Smile
