Professional background: I have 20 years of high-level diverse experience in architecture and urban design. My primary expertise is in the masterplanning of residential and mixed-use precincts, including activity centres, transit-oriented developments, and new communities. I have experience designing a variety of residential and mixed-use building types, as well as creating form based codes and design guidelines. My employment history includes senior level appointments with leading consulting firms and property developers. I also ran my own consulting practice for four years. Personal journey: Since reading Kunstler's 'The Long Emergency' in 2005, I have been exploring the implications of peak oil. The realisation of the coming dramatic shifts in our economy and way of life have led me to various related topics / investigations including the structure of our money system, the implications of peak debt, and the need to design communities in closer proximity to food production. On a personal level, it has led me and my wife to begin restructuring the way we live to be less energy intensive and more self-reliant and resilient. We have recently moved to a small town in the Perth hills and have been improving our one acre block using permaculture principles, as well as focussing on improving our community networks. -- peak oil, debt deflation, resilience, community building, right livelihood, alternative currency systems, master planning, urban design, passive solar housing design, small-lot residential design, mixed-use building design, transit-oriented development, agricultural urbanism, built form codes, pattern books, transect-based planning
