Their stated goal is herd immunity. When their hospitals are overrun you can say its disastrous. Until that happens, they are just testing a different hypothesis.
My wife and I have 5 kids, from age 24 to 5. We have definitely drifted from more to less control as more kids arrived. Although we may not have been hekicopter parents at any point, we have certainly learned that our words and external control efforts yeild less benefit than our example and their imitative.
We live on a bit of partially wooded acreage where occasional bears, coyotes, and unknown dogs show up. We have rose bushes and blackberry brambles which are thorny. We have flying and biting insects of various sorts seasonally. But the kids spend most of their time outside, they explore, forage, whiddle, cook, sew, and ride the zip line unobserved. When we go to the nearby lake, strangers comment on their kayaking and paddle board skills being above their age. They feed the chickens and goats and visit with them, mimicking their sounds.
I have observed that they WAY more from doing than from listening, so candidly, id like go further in the direction of giving them more access and exposure to varied experiences.
There is an old crocodile Dundee movie where a stranger is amazed to learn that mick’s son has killed a wild bore on his own at age 7. Mick replies sheepishly, yeah, well, better late than nevah..

He recommended the American redoubt area later popularized by james rawles. Near east coast he favored the cumberland plateau (tn/ky).
I used to live at the beach, now I live in the mountain’s.
Big swells would hit the beach in sets. So if you were walking near waters edge and a wave rushed up and made you stumble or fall, you were on notice that the next wave of that set would be coming soon. It served as a wake up call that one was walking too close to waters edge.
Your pivot to resiliency is good instict, taking steps away from the edge of dependency, taking responsibility for your own food supply.
The next wave could be weeks from now or in the fall. It could be viral or oil or currency reset or war. But its coming.
I’d find a place in the world that would bebuninteresting to imperial powers. Low oil, mineral, extractive value.
I’d research citizenship options, and more it on expat forums, travel there, pick a small town in a less populated area. I’d research how locals live and mentally shift to being satisfied with that. Then id move there and be a good neighbor and keep a low profile.

As for timing, a decade early is better than a day late. Mortgage standards are tightening and this will likely accelerate. If you are planning an all cash purchase then you might want to do an entry point averaging by buying modest home in area of your choice, move in. If real estate prices drop, then buy your dream property at a discount.
We moved to greater knoxville tn about 8 years ago. It ticks the boxes. Low taxes, self sufficient communities, nice folks, beautiful rural properties close to civilization. Good interent even in the sticks.
We ended up an hour south of knoxville (monroe county near tellico lake) but you could be just as happy an hour north I’m sure (grainger county).
If you have extended family in an area that ticks your boxes, give that a star. Its hard to integrate into a rural area. If you grandparents arent from here, you will never be from here. People are nice enough, but fully integrating is tough.
I normally dont but did this year.
My rationale: I dont want a visit from a potentially infective census worker.
Ferfal has written some books and has a blog on what happened in argentina. It is a very different take than typical bug out, prepper advice.
