I haven’t gotten a flu shot for over a decade and I haven’t gotten the flu. The one time I did take the shot, I got the flu. My strategy is simple: eat healthy and take appropriate supplements such as vitamin c and d as needed. And avoid children! Luckily I can do this. I also avoided potlucks during the winter where children were present. Not a problem this year.
I love kids but they are super spreaders.
Works for me too.

In Permaculture we call this “stacking functions” and is a very important concept in the cycling of energy and resources.
Wow. Thanks Peggy. I contracted it during the last outbreak on the Big Island, Hawaii.
I have thought about starting one because I am looking too.
Great profile Maceves.
I am a silver-haired Permaculturist in Maine and my full profile is on greensingles.com
Very interesting thread.
I too have considered the expat life and have my Panamanian Pensionado card. Understanding that many former military and CIA have chosen that location was incentive for me to make that choice. I have lived both in Europe and Central America and I am comfortable in most areas both places. I consider myself far more “European” than American.
However, now being single and looking at 70 just over the horizon the only way I would expat now would be to an intentional community. But then I have the training (certified in Eco-village Design as well as Sustainable Design) and have done the work and study. It is not an easy path but I firmly believe that community (intentional or otherwise) is the only way through what’s barreling at us.
I have been “nomading” the US this last year trying on different places. I am headed back to Maine now. If anyone is interested in building a small community and think you have the right stuff, I’d love to visit with you.
I actually did my high school senior English thesis on that book.
My would include a sealed package of the best weed I could find, matches, Scotch, Belgium chocolates and a tin of my favorite English tea.
I prepare a fruit smoothie for breakfast which means I wind up with a lot of juice bottles. The plastic (mostly) get recycled, the glass ones I clean and fill with tap water and store them. I never ever have to worry about water. In the summer, when it’s dry and I need to water I use my stored water and then refill my bottles; that way my water is refreshed at the very least once a year. You’d be surprised how often this has come in handy…
I have a thing for Canadian Maple Leafs. Can’t find them through my regular sources right now. Hard time finding ammo. Can’t stand pork and beans. What’s a gal to do??
