    Getting Real About Green Energy

An honest analysis of what it CAN'T promise
    by Chris Martenson

    Friday, October 4, 2019, 2:58 PM

I’m often asked where I stand on wind, solar and other alternative energy sources.

My answer is: I love them. But they’re incapable of enabling our society to smoothly slip over to powering itself by other means.

They’re not going to “save us”.

    Executive Summary

    • Why the wealthy are plotting to leave us behind
    • The "madness of crowds" virtually ensures a period of social chaos when the system breaks
    • The media is, and will continue to be, used to manipulate the masses
    • The growing risk of a new kind of civil war in America

The Wealthy Are Plotting To Leave Us Behind

In the absence of an official plan, you'd better have your own — something the extremely wealthy are already working on for themselves.

As the co-founders of Peak Prosperity, Adam and I happen to know and/or interact with quite a few wealthy people who are deeply concerned about the future and taking steps to assure their survival in it.  These people have access to the very best information; they know the system better than your average citizen.  They know what the weak points are and what could go wrong.

From our observations, it’s safe to say that the more insider-experience an individual has, the greater their concern.

The least-concerned people are those without much knowledge of the system (i.e., most "regular" folks). Or a weak sense of curiosity. Or, most damagingly, a propensity to get their news from the mainstream media.  Let’s just say that the information available to the “retail crowd” is either incomplete or misleading (and quite often intentionally so).

What I mean to say more directly is: if you're not already a billionaire and getting access to the very best and most accurate information, you’d do well to….

G7 Nations Agree To Phase Out Fossil Fuels

    Is this news for real?
    by Chris Martenson

    Tuesday, June 9, 2015, 3:20 PM

Yesterday saw a promising headline: at a recent G7 gathering, the leaders apparently agreed to the impossible: cutting carbon emissions by 40%-70% by 2050.  The only real way to do this, obviously, is to cut the use of fossil fuels. And that’s what they apparently agreed to do.

Why Oil Is Going To Double In Price

ETA? About a year from now
    by Chris Martenson

    Tuesday, March 3, 2015, 3:01 PM

We’ve got an oil emergency brewing right now. I know that this idea runs utterly counter to the mainstream narrative of a shale oil bonanza that has us swimming in oil; but that’s why this site exists.

Within a year, possibly a little longer but not much, I think the price of oil is going to double from its current per barrel price of $50 US/$60 Brent.

    Building Resiliency with GoalZero

GoalZero Solar Power Kits Holiday Sale

    Special offer on GoalZero products
    by Jason

    Monday, December 3, 2012, 11:40 PM

We are pleased to announce that PrepareDirect is offering PeakProsperity.com readers a special holiday discount of 5% off all GoalZero Kits and Components.

GoalZero offers portable, expandable, and affordable backup and off-grid power solutions for lighting, communications and small 12V coolers. It's also great for powering smaller electronic devices when traveling, camping and backpacking. The GoalZero product line offers entry-level resilience building opportunities for your backup power needs.

Read the recent article by PeakProsperity member moyera on his experience with GoalZero products: Building Resiliency with GoalZero

    Specifically, PrepareDirect is offering us:

    • A 5% additional discount on all GoalZero Power Products and Kits
    • Free shipping on orders $99 or more

Click here to take advantage of this offer and use Coupon Code: PEAKGOAL5, exclusive to PeakProsperity.com readers. Offer will be valid through the month of December, 2012.

There are many occasions presented to us throughout the year where having a reliable and renewable backup power solution is not only prudent but necessary.  From storms in the winter that bring down power lines, to summer brownouts and blackouts, our public power systems can suddenly become unavailable for hours — sometimes even days and weeks.  Hurrincane Sandy and the recent serious of storms on the West Coast are just a few examples of where power outages have effected large segments of the US.

We encourage you to evaluate your current energy usage and determine what the critical functions you need power are and develop a strategy for providing emergency backup power to meet those needs. Review the WSID Guide for a discussion of Power, Heating, and Communications and the other areas to look at in emergency situations where a lack of power might leave you unacceptably vulnerable.

We hope you continue to find these offers on essential resiliency items a welcome addition to the news and other articles on the site. We look forward to providing updates to the WSID Guide and Series in the coming year.

Full disclosure: Based on our existing relationship with PrepareDirect, PeakProsperity.com will receive a small commission if you purchase through this special offer. This will not impact the price you pay (in fact,as the offer states, you're getting an exclusive price discount not available to the public-at-large). The proceeds we receive will be immediately invested to fund new features and functionality for this site.

We’d also love to hear any feedback based on your first-hand experience with the products and vendors that we recommend through these special offers (and elsewhere on this site). Our goal is to ensure that we’re doing our utmost to offer the best guidance for utility, value, and service.

    Installing a Solar Energy System

    Building resiliency with the sun
    by rhare

    Saturday, November 27, 2010, 4:51 AM

Like many of you reading this article, I am fairly new to the realization that our future may not turn out the way we originally planned.  A little over two years ago, after the financial turmoil set in, I began to wake up from my comfortable, relatively uncomplicated life and take a closer look at what was going on around me.

I was first introduced to the Crash Course by an attendee at the 2009 CPAC Liberty Forum in Washington, DC where I had gone to hear Ron Paul speak.  Little did I know how dramatic an impact that one conversation would have on my life.  After watching the Crash Course a couple of times, many pieces of the puzzle started to fall together, and I quickly progressed to Stage 4 – Fear.  (See The Six Stages of Awareness for more on that topic).  A few weeks after I attended Dr. Martenson's Lowesville seminar, I decided it was time to take immediate action.  I've also had to deal with the challenges of convincing my partner that these changes were really worthwhile and necessary and that I wasn't a raving lunatic who would soon be wearing a tin foil hat!

I hope reading about the thermal and photovoltaic solar systems we have installed will encourage you to think about actions you can take to prepare for our uncertain future.  Since it would be impossible to even begin to give every detail about how the systems work or how to put one together, my goal is to show what can be done, give you things to consider, suggest rough costs, and provide links for further research.

What Should I Do? The Basics of Resilience (Part 6 – Heat, Power, & Communications)

    by Chris Martenson

    Tuesday, August 17, 2010, 1:03 PM

Note:  This article is part of a series on personal preparation to help you answer the question, “What should I do?”  Our goal is to provide a safe, rational, relatively comfortable experience for those who are just coming to the realization that it would be prudent to take precautionary steps against an uncertain future.  Those who have already taken these basic steps (and more) are invited to help us improve what is offered here by contributing comments, as this content is meant to be dynamic and improve over time.

    Heat, Power, and Communications

Being warm, having instant access to electricity, and being able to connect with anyone anytime, anywhere, are so integrated in present-day life that we often forget just how much value these luxuries offer us.  My town has experienced four weather- and usage-related power outages in the past year (for a total of eleven power-free days), which provided a useful reminder of just how dependent we are on the miracle of steady, uninterrupted energy.

Being able to see when it is dark, cook food, and heat your space should an outage occur in the winter are first-level needs to prepare for.  Remaining in touch with those you depend on (and those who depend on you) is also a primary need, especially in any prolonged outage situation.

Even more significantly than with food and water, there are major cost differences between preparing in an ideal or long-term sort of way using totally self-sufficient alternate energy systems and preparing in a good-enough stop-gap way for temporary outages.  There is certainly value in planning and investing to accomplish both, but do not let concerns that you will not have the perfect long-term system impede you from preparing for some of the more likely problematic wrinkles that may come your way.
