OK, after all this blazing virtuosity, it’s time to slow it down a little bit.

Here’s a guy EVERYBODY knows. – Not just all you guitar mavens! A guy who really should be an inspiration, too. Somehow he’s survived drug addiction and unspeakable personal tragedy and continues to shine. One of the greatest guitar heros of the 60s, or any era, I’m talking about old "Slow Hand," himself, Eric Clapton.

Generations of guitarists have come along, and their innovations and their techniques are remarkable, – some of these guys can play circles around him – but Clapton is still a giant. It’s tempting to think of him as overrated (the "Clapton is God" thing is a bit much!), except he’s not. Few musicians have his instinct for building a solo, chorus after chorus. And the way he makes a guitar sing – has there ever been a more perfect vibrato? – is simply a wonder.

Greg,

Great clip, and I agree. Clapton has always been one of my favorites. Not to take away from any other of the other guitarists that have been posted, but Clapton puts enormous soul into his best music, which is the essence of excellent R&B.
