pedal powered generator/amazing book
I apologize if this has already been discussed/posted here or elsewhere:
I stumbled across the most amazing and timely book the other day- called “the Human Powered Home” byTamara Dean. Amongst the many treasures within were links to 2 small companies who make generators to be powered by humans or anything that provides an rotational impulse.
I have long marvelled at how wasteful workout machines are- despite the undeniable physical benefits, this (mechanical power) is a valuable resource which we are wasting away, usually in the form of frictional heat. I also have long been considering investing in a solar or wind powered generator- but have held off due to the price.
Both these companies produce small generators meant to be hooked up to any standard bike. For as little as $350 you can be ready for a long-term power outage. This nugget alone is what drew me to the book, but it is chock full of other ideas and more importantly, the contacts in order to put these plans into action.
