Will Mutual Funds survive a dollar collapse? What if the mutual fund has foreign currency denomination?

My 401k savings are locked in the account unless i quit my job then i can roll it over to buy physical gold or silver.  I don't want to quit my job.  However, i do have a few choices where the mutual funds have mostly foreign dollar denominations.  would my savings survive a U.S. dollar collapse?  can anyone illustrate  an example?  thanks

I too need some advice on funds locked into 401Ks and similar

Is there a way to diversify within the '401K / similar retirement funds world' that is on the better end of the spectrum given that one would take a huge penalty hit calling in those accounts early?

Is the risk so high now that its worth selling / cashing in on 401Ks now and purchasing precious metals or other hard commodities?

Oh, and by the way I'm new at posting in these forums, though I've been a member for a while now. I'm just getting preparations started in earnest, given the fragile state of world affairs as of late.

Best wishes to all.

Mutual funds & dollar collapse

Hello Deus X Machina and Markarena,

I'm in the same situation. I have a few options on where I can move it, but I don't know which option is the best. CM has talked a bit about "cash equivalent" accounts - like a money market fund, but I can't do that with my 401k. However, I do have an option that is supposed to be a very low risk investment, similar I suppose, to a money market fund. I'm torn between putting it all there, or moving it out to foreign markets that are heading in the same direction as the US.

I also have an IRA with Vanguard, the S&P 500 index. I am sooo torn about cashing out. My fiance does not want me to do it, but we're not married yet WinkHe's on board with all of the preps, but has more faith in the markets than I do!
