Who is Josef Oehmen?

On March 12th, an article from Josef Oehmen called "Why I am not worried about Japan’s nuclear reactors" got viral. I am sure many of you have already read it, but here it is again.

http://www.businessinsider.com/japan-reactors-pose-no-risk-2011-3

Since then, it has been updated and cannot be found in its original format. Here's the web site hosting the article:

http://morgsatlarge.wordpress.com/2011/03/13/why-i-am-not-worried-about-...

This page says: "The post is now hosted and maintained by the MIT Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering.
http://mitnse.com/"

Only problem: a quick whois lookup on the domain name mitnse.com shows that it was created on March 13, 2011, a day after the article was originally posted.

Registrant:
MIT Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering

77 Massachusetts Avenue
Cambridge
Cambridge, Massachusetts 02139
United States

Registered through: Automattic
Domain Name: MITNSE.COM
Created on: 13-Mar-11
Expires on: 13-Mar-12
Last Updated on: 13-Mar-11

So one could think that this is an individual who is claiming some connections with the MIT but is not really connected to it. Well, not exactly: the MIT Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering (http://web.mit.edu/nse/) links to this mitnse.com domain on the upper right corner of its home page

This link to this new "blog" was clearly added in the past few days. If you look at the archives of the MIT Dept of Nuclear Science web page, this blog is never mentioned (which is normal since it didn't exist at that time).

So why would the MIT link to this blog which was created just to host this article? You would think that the MIT would distance itself from anything having to do with this article.

Does anyone else find this a lttle strange?

possible vested interest?

cyril,

there was a link posted at ZH recently regarding him:

http://www.zerohedge.com/article/understanding-radioactivity-fukushima-physics-and-engineering-perspective

http://techyum.com/2011/03/josef-oehmen-fukushima/

http://www.salon.com/news/politics/war_room/2011/03/15/josef_oehmen_nuclear_not_worried_viral

It does look like there might be a vested interest for him with the nuclear industry and clearly, the original post did not bode well with how the events actually turned out.

He is a research scientist at MIT, but MIT has cordoned off any press coverage associated with him.
