Today is a special “Fauci Diary Digest” edition of the Daily Digest, a roundup of headlines surfacing from Senator Rand Paul’s recent release of more than 1,100 pages of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s personal diaries, which cover the period from December 2019 through Fauci’s December 2022 retirement. Today, Fauci is expected to testify under oath before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which Paul chairs. The diaries and associated materials present contemporaneous private notes on scientific discussions, policy actions, personal assessments of risk, and public recognition alongside the public statements Fauci made during the same periods.

Starting at the beginning, the diaries include entries on the origins of COVID-19. On January 26, 2020, Fauci wrote, “Now we know the market was not the source, it was the amplifier.” Soon thereafter, on February 1, 2020, he recorded a conference call with approximately a dozen scientists. According to the entry, only two supported a natural-origins explanation. The others considered the possibility of “deliberate insertion” of a spike-protein feature, citing gain-of-function research conducted by Wuhan researcher Zheng-Li Shi. The notes state that the spike protein “could not have occurred naturally since it would require an evolutionary jump that they found nowhere in bat isolates.” The group discussed the possibility of accidental or deliberate laboratory release, with accidental release described as more likely. Fauci wrote, “We could not let this go.” Despite all this, in a May 2020 National Geographic interview, Fauci described lab-leak claims as “circular arguments” and stated that the virus was “totally consistent” with an animal-to-human jump.

Chris Martenson reported on May 2 and May 5 of 2020, six years ago, that it appeared COVID-19 was made in a lab.

On lethality, a February 8, 2020 diary entry assessed the case fatality rate as “more like 0.2-0.3%.” However, in public statements in March 2020, including under oath before Congress on March 11, Fauci described the fatality rate as about 3% overall or approximately 1% after accounting for asymptomatic cases, characterizing it as up to roughly 10 times more deadly than his diary entries indicated.

In July 2022, Fauci stated publicly, “First of all, I didn’t recommend locking anything down.” However, a March 15, 2020 diary entry regarding restrictions states that Fauci persuaded New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and California Governor Gavin Newsom to close schools, bars, and restaurants. The diaries also record efforts to address public criticism of restrictions and references to the authors of the Great Barrington Declaration as “the 3 stooges.”

On vaccination, Fauci stated publicly that vaccinated individuals “can feel safe that you will not get infected.” However, a November 17, 2021, diary entry describes anxiety after attending a crowded restaurant event where vaccination proof was required and mask use was intermittent. The entry notes, “I’m well aware that many people who [are] vaccinated are still getting infected, and that worried me a lot.”

On cardiovascular health, diary material indicated that Fauci experienced a pulmonary infarction several months after a public vaccination and received treatment, without public disclosure of the event as vaccine-related.

On female reproductive health, a March 2, 2021, NIH email stated that subject-matter experts, particularly obstetricians, “were aware that mRNA might reach the fetus.” An email from Drew Weissman to Fauci on February 8, 2021, discussed mRNA-lipid nanoparticles reaching the placenta and fetus and producing an immune response in amniotic fluid, as well as uptake in the uterus and ovaries in non-pregnant mice. Fauci replied, “Thanks for sending this.” However, two days later at a White House briefing, Fauci stated there were “no red flags.” Furthermore, former CDC Director Rochelle Walensky went on to state publicly that there were no safety concerns or elevated miscarriage risk associated with vaccination in pregnant people.

Five years ago, suggesting the vaccine could cause reproductive issues in women would get you censored, which happened to Chris in August of 2021.

Perhaps most irritatingly, YouTube will be promoting some corporate nonsense about valuing diversity and being for women’s rights and empowerment, while they actively suppress a topic that desperately needs coverage.

Even if I am wrong about the connection between women’s fertility cycles and the vaccines, my observation about cycle disruption should be allowed to stand, be vigorously debated, and then shot down with data.

~ Chris

The diaries also contain multiple entries on public attention and recognition. Fauci wrote that it was “not hyperbole” to describe himself as “the most famous and talked about person in the country” and that President Trump “seems to be enamored of me even though I am taking the spotlight away from him.” Entries reference media appearances, honorary doctorates, public events, and items such as donuts, T-shirts, and coloring books featuring his image. One entry notes a comparison to Tyra Banks. Another records an invitation from Jake Tapper for dinner during the period of restrictions. In another, he notes observations about the effect of his public statements on the stock market.

Separate records released with the diaries document Fauci soliciting award nominations from scientists whose research had received NIAID funding. One example involves Barton Haynes of Duke University, whose work had received substantial NIAID support. A nomination process linked to Fauci resulted in a prize of approximately $1 million. Additional solicitations for other awards are also documented.

An April 23, 2020, entry describes a call from Deborah Birx reporting that President Trump had stated in the Oval Office: “You and Fauci have destroyed the country and the economy. I should never have listened to you.” Fauci recorded responding that “at the end of the day, she and I will be loved by the people we care about.” Some wonder if he’s still loved by those same people now.

Fauci is scheduled to appear before the committee under oath later today.
