So I got sent this e-mail today......

THE  COUNTRY of  TEXOARKLA

In case things get a little  tougher during the next few months, we
In  LOUISIANA , TEXAS , OKLAHOMA  &  ARKANSAS have a plan.

Maybe you don't know it, but  LOUISIANA , TEXAS , OKLAHOMA , &
ARKANSAS  have a legal right to secede from the Union .  (Reference the
Texas/Louisiana-American  Annexation Treaty of 1848.)

Us TEXOARKLANS love y'all  Americans, but we'll probably have to
take  action since Barack Obama won the election and  is now the President
of
the U.S.A.  We'll miss y'all though.

Here is what can  happen:

1.  Barack Hussein Obama, after becoming the  President of the United
States , begins to  try and create a socialist country, then TEXAS  ,
LOUISIANA , ARKANSAS  and OKLAHOMA  announces that they are going to secede
from  the Union ..

2. George W. Bush becomes the President of the  Republic of
TEXOARKLA . You might think that  he doesn't talk too pretty, but we
haven't
had another terrorist attack and the  economy was fine until the effects of
Barney  Frank and the Democrats lowering the  qualifications for home loans
came home to  roost..

So  what does TEXOARKLA have to do to survive as a  Republic?

1.  NASA is just south of Houston , Texas .  We  will control the
space  industry.

2.  We refine over 90% of the gasoline in the United  States ..

3.  Defense Industry--we have over 65% of it. The  term "Don't mess
with TEXAS ," will take on a  whole new meaning.

4. Oil - we can supply all the oil that  the Republic of TEXOARKLA
will need for the  next 300 years. What will the other states do?  Gee, we
don't know.  Why not ask  Obama?

5.  Natural Gas - again, we have all we need and  it's too bad about
those Northern States.  John Kerry and Al Gore will just have to figure
out a
way to keep them warm...

6. Computer Industry - we  lead the nation in producing computer
chips  and communications equipment - small companies  like Texas
Instruments,
Dell Computer, EDS,  Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola,  Intel,
AMD,
Nortel, Alcatel, etc..  The  list goes on and on.

7. Medical Care - We have the research  centers for cancer research,
the best burn  centers and the top trauma units in the world,  as well as
other large health  centers.

8.  We have enough colleges to keep educating and  making smarter
citizens:  University of  Texas , Texas A&M, Texas Tech, University  of
Oklahoma , Oklahoma State University ,  UL-Lafayette, UL-Monroe, LSU,
Louisiana Tech  University , University of Arkansas ,    Arkansas State
University , Baylor, Rice,  TCU, SMU and MANY more.

9. We have an intelligent and  energetic work force and it isn't
restricted  by a bunch of unions. Here in TEXOARKLA, we are  a Right-to-Work
State and, therefore, it's  every man and woman for themselves.. We just  go
out and get the job done.. And if we don't  like the way one company
operates, we get a  job somewhere else.

10. We have essential control of the  paper, plastics, and insurance
industries,  etc.

11. In  case of a foreign invasion, we have the  TEXOARKLA National
Guard, the TEXOARKLA Air  National Guard, and several military bases.  We
don't have an Army, but since everybody  down here has at least six guns and
a pile of  ammo, we can raise an Army in 24 hours if we  need one. If the
situation really gets bad,  we can always call the Department of  Public
Safety and ask them to send over the  Texas Rangers.

12. We are totally self-sufficient in  beef, poultry, hogs, and
several types of  grain, fruit and vegetables and let's not forget  seafood
from the Gulf.  Also, everybody  down here knows how to cook them so that
they  taste good.  We don't need any food from  somewhere else.

13. FIVE of the ten largest cities in the  United States  and
THIRTY TWO of the  100 largest cities in the United States are  located in
TEXOARKLA.  And TEXOARKLA  also has more land than California , New York  ,
New Jersey , Connecticut , Delaware ,  Hawaii , Massachusetts ,  Maryland
,
Rhode Island  and Vermont  combined.

14.  Trade:  FIVE of the ten largest ports in  the United States are
located in  TEXOARKLA.

15. We also manufacture cars down here, but we  don't need to. You
see, nothing rusts in  TEXOARKLA so our vehicles stay beautiful and run
well
for decades.

This just names a few of the items that  will keep the Republic of
TEXOARKLA in good  shape. There isn't a thing out there that we  need and
don't have.

Now to the rest of you folks in  the United States under  President
Obama:

Since you won't have the refineries to  get gas for your cars, only
President Obama  will be able to drive around in his big 9 mpg  SUV.  The
rest
of the United States will  have to walk or ride bikes.

You won't have any TV as the Space  Center in Houston will cut off
satellite  communications.

You won't have any natural gas to heat  your homes, but since Al Gore
has predicted  global warming, you will not need the gas as  long as you
survive the 2000 years it will  take to get enough heat from Global
Warming.

In  other words, the rest of y'all in the USA can  enjoy change!

Signed, The People of  TEXOARKLA

P.S.  This is not a threatening letter - just a note  to give you
something to think  about!

Sleep well  tonight 'cause the eyes of TEXOARKLA are on  YOU!!
lau
Make room, im comin!!! big_smile

My reaction was Ok See YA!  But,  the animus that will develop will be the beginning......

Secession.

Its like an adolescent knee jerk reaction to make mom and dad angry with little thought about the consequences.

What do secessionist think will happen to their newly formed government? Do they think the US would let them keep any military equipment at all? How long would it take them to build a world class army to defend themselves? Who wouldn't want to invade them right away while they are weak and unprepared. What country wouldn't want to gain a foot hold in such prime real estate?

Wonder what they'll use for money. Not that debt free socialist stuff I guess.

Agreed JO.  However, as we know, adolescent behavior by the parent promotes the same in the child.

As a native Texan, I can say that if this happened these things would be next:

1) most people would get the hell out of "dodge"

2) the people left in Texas would pick a fight with those left in Lousy-anna, Ok, Ak

3) Bush would be [in trouble] without his Secret Service guard. [ed. for obvious reasons....]

I was also thinking that!  You could standardize money to so may ergs, for example.  After all, debt is a claim on future work and  work is energy.  And, for example, E = (mass of .001 gram Au)* c**2.

Don't want to get in a pissing match, but.....

I think sucession would be great for this nation. This is a nice first step into Kunstler's utilizing more local resourses.

It would also bring similar people closer together.  I was originally from fly over country and feel the coasts are grossly out of touch with reality.

This would force sustaining communities on this nation much more quickly that anything out of DC.

Yep.  Ft Hood in Texas is the largest Army base in the nation.  Most of the soldiers there are NOT from that region.  Where do you think their loyalty lies ?  There would be a LOT of dead TEXOARKLAns before it was over (and secession failed).

And... with the impinging drug lord armies just across the border in Mexico (hell they're already in Texas, let face it), with the loss of Federal police action holding them back, we'd be in a world of hurt, Chuck Norris notwithstanding ;)

I am getting the impression people think I agreed with this e-mail!  I do not!  I posted it because I think it is a very bad idea and shows pretty clearly that a.)  people do NOT understand their own state level economies any more than they do the national or global one  b.) people ARE thinking more and more about secession and c.) secession is a BAD idea as it would weaken the entire country and leave us open to stronger foreign countries' economic and military invasion....

I would agree with the general idea Nate. I don't think that people here are making fun of the localization part of secession. It's the uninformed attitude of secessionists, and in particular the tone of the email that was posted to start this thread. People singing the praises of secession don't seem to fully grasp the reality of what the evil federal government has done for them, and what they would have to do without. Heck. I don't think about it most of the time. Now I am spending a lot more time looking at it.

No, Dogs I did not miss the humor,  I saw that it was meant as funny.  But, sociologists have often said that to predict the future of a nation one only needs to listen to its comedians for it is  in humor that society's tell their truth.....

The only reason this would be funny to a person is if they thought that secretly this would be a good idea and that there is truth in it.  Besides,  the person who sent it to me sent it as a way of thumbing his nose at me,  as I live on the coast and he thinks the cities of the coast are Soddom and Gomorrah and should be eliminated.

" c.) secession is a BAD idea as it would weaken the entire country and leave us open to stronger foreign countries' economic and military invasion...."

Yep this would be a bad thing it would interfere with the  invasion well under way by our own federal government.. I know it could always be worse but my question is how much worse?

There would be no reason for a military invasion a few more years and this country will be going for pennies on the dollar. I assume the country you fear is China. They would not be stupid enough to destroy their collateral.

Or another scenario is the fifty states then reorganize with three enumerated powers (coin money, regulate interstate commerce and raise an army for a common defense) under a very weak federal system with the rest of the rights reverting to the separate states and the citizens.. Oh my it was tried over 200 years ago and is an abject failure........my bad.

I think picking a fight with the people of Alaska would be a bad idea. They would rally around  Sarah Palin.

Of course you Jeff could be referring to Arkansas which has the postal abb. of AR.

Re: So I got sent this e-mail today......

Actually V,  when I think of the options available to the US at this point we're basically looking at bad choices or worse choices.  None of them are appealing and none of them look peaceful.  But,  I think we would be better served by revolution rather than secession.  Revolution could give us a possibility - however slim it might be - of getting back some semblance of what the founders envisioned.  The revolution could just be massive social upheaval rather than full out war.  Secession will create a group of smaller countries with no ability to defend against outsiders or each other......

I personally think China is the least of our worries.  China is practically the only thing keeping our dollar alive.  But, having said that,  there are other countries far more likely to start something against a small piece of the US that they would not do against the entire entity as it exists now.  While unlikely,  I would not count out Iran,  North Korea or even Pakistan from trying to get a foot hold.  It does no good with these nations to consider it logically,  look at it form a nationalistic perspective from their side and you can see how it would appeal.   Even Mexico could consider trying to "get back" some land if they thought the group holding it was weak enough.
