This development probably has something to do with the ever-tighteneing  Israeli naval blockade of the Gaza Strip.  Gaza fishermen are now attacked by Israeli gunboats if they venture more than 3 km from the coast (previously the maximum limit was 20 km), which, of course, is exacerbating the malnutrition crisis in the territory.

Ethan Bronner typically fails to mention any of this but the NYT is a famously unreliable source of information about matters pertaining to the Middle East.  Remember Judith Miller?

I certainly hope the gas fields aren't the catalyst for the next devastation of Lebanon by the IAF.

 Believe me .... they will be a major player .   Just what other treasures might be there ?
