Post Peak Medicine

Good Morning

I'm a family physician in Ontario, Canada and I wanted people to be aware that I've recently set up a website "Post Peak Medicine"

www.postpeakmedicine.com

It is mainly aimed at medical professionals, although anyone with an interest in healthcare, preparedness and the changing times will probably find it interesting.  Its purpose is to (hopefully) act as a focus for medical professionals who are becoming aware of peak oil and related issues and want to know what to do next and in particular, how to move their existing medical practices into a post-peak world.  It is not primarily about how the public can provide their own healthcare in the absence of medical services (there are other books and websites available about that, and I've provided some links), but more about practical and ethical issues of interest to medical professionals; for example, how to fund a medical practice in the absence of government or insurance funding, and what a physician's duties are towards prisoners of war in an armed conflict.  I am currently looking for specialists in various fields to contribute chapters.  Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

peter31,

As an Optometrist and subscriber to peak easy energy, I've gathered the "old tooling" to mfg lenses. Electricity is required but only for a bit of time(a few minutes/pair). Optometrists are still taught today, notwithstanding the multivariant calc, the practical skills for lense mfg. Availing oneself to the neccessary eq. is only an inconvienience at worst.

Re: Post Peak Medicine

robie , I have saved a couple pair of my older glasses as back up .   With astigmatism and pour vision I am lost without them and they are expensive now no telling what in the future . Do I dare go back to the last years script. if need be ?   I am so thankful that none of my children need for corrective lenses.

FM,

My professional disclaimer is," to ask your Optometrist". Since they were prescribed for you they should be fine. Generally, too weak is better than too strong.

Being a poor typist and grammarian would make an unsuitable candidate for "Post Peak Medicine" My interest are more into getting my sweet sorghum pressed and reduced into "Sweet Sorghum Syrup".

Robie,

Your skills at optometry (and everything else) will indeed be valuable.  I wished we lived close geographically.

Medical issues are discussed on this forum.

Thanks for the link to Dicoumeral. I had never heard of it. Fungi will feature strongly. Penicillium springs to mind.

Mycelium (Mushrooms) are neither plant nor animal, and have been in an evolutionary race with pathogens since forever. This is why they are useful and interesting.

. Petroleum products and pesticides that can be contaminants of soil are organic molecules. Therefore, fungi should have potential to remove such pollutants from the soil environment, a process known as bioremediation.

Opium is odd. It is not a fungus. We used to have a bee stings worth of Heroin on our dogtags in a war. Those who are blindly opposed to it change their position when their foot is blown off.

Wiki has a balanced expose.

Coral reefs are also important.
