Pacific NW Group

Hi folks,

I'm hoping to find all the members and "lurkers" who live in Washington or Oregon.

From what I've been able to determine from various threads, the following live in Oregon or Washington:

dbajba: WA

dickey45: OR

lannij: Snohomish, WA, near Seattle

ronbailey: north of Seattle, WA, near the Canadian border. ([email protected])

Worker Bee: Oregon City, OR

Roundhouse: Eastern WA

Aaron Moyer: OR - "...in the Gorge, just across the river from Cascade Locks"

It would be great if we could exchange personal email addresses to establish a local group for mutual support.

If you would like to keep your email address off the public forums, please use my email link to contact me intially. Then we can exchange email addresses just amongst ourselves.

I'm looking forward to hearing from all Pacific NW'ers!

Sam~

Hey that is great to find people so close. I live off of Cornell Rd. Near the largest Costco Wholesale.
Area also known as Orenco Station.

my email [email protected]

Now that we all know we are so close we should keep each other updated on local information. Most of the time the media does not cover all areas of Oregon and Washington.

Sam any ideas about starting a community garden in this area? The closest ones are in portland. Having to drive in traffic defeats the purpose. We need to find a better option.

What part of Corvallis? I miss it there so much. I lived down there a couple years ago while I finished my degree. Talk about a great community. It would be a great place to weather the economic storm. Take care~

Hey Sam,

Sounds great! No worries on the OR/WA thing - The PNW is where my heart is and Oregon suits me fine!

I'll be out of town for the rest of the month, but I'll be back in the first part of March.
Keep me posted - It'd be nice to have a meet up!

Cheers!

Hi Kathy,

Welcome. Can you turn on your email link or provide an email address so that I can add it to my list?

Thanks, Aaron.

Are you able to check your email while you're "on the road again"? I'll be sending out a blanket email with everyone's email address on it so we can all know how to get in touch with each other. You'll probably be back before we actually nail down a first "meeting of the clan".

Due to the proximity of folks - we might try to do a local meet first (those within 30 - 50 miles of Portland), then see if we can do another meeting somewhere convenient to everyone further out (maybe Seattle?).

Needless to say, everyone in the Pacific NW will be welcome at any meeting if you're willing to make the trip! Smile

Count me in too....

 [email protected]

We live near Wenatchee (center of the state) and are currently working with our neighbors on a community garden plan etc. With much thanks to the CC that I gave everyone for xmas, well over 1/2 are on board.  Should the need arise, I have no idea what we'll do with the other half but I guess we'll  jump off that bridge when we come to it.

Keep me posted, I'd like to participate

Re: Pacific NW Group

Hi Everyone,

It's good to see that we have so many Chris Martenson members out here in the beautiful NW. So far we've got eight responders in Washington and six in Oregon (including myself).

Half of the WA group and three of the OR group have shared personal email addresses. Since I'm not sure of everyone's comfort level regarding email address sharing, I'm going to post mine here and allow folks to contact me directly. ([email protected])

We can continue to share/post in this thread or we can begin exchanging emails "off-line". Please let me know your preference.

In the not too distant future, I would like to set up a breakfast or lunch meet-and-greet with those within driving distance. If you are interested and have a suggestion as to a location, please respond here or by direct email.

Thanks, everyone, for "joining up". I would imagine that we've all learned quite a bit since we became part of PeakProsperity.com! Laughing

I am going to send this same message directly to those who have already shared their email addresses.

Re: Pacific NW Group

Posting this in response to an off-post email from "LindaBobzien":

Hi Linda,
I must be honest and freely admit it wasn't my idea to start with. What
got me going was "Dogs" and Mike with their Virginia Group. That got me
thinking that maybe there were enough members to start a Pacific NW
group. So, I emailed PeakProsperity.com with the following query

"I get the sense that there are a number of people out here
in Oregon/Washington (maybe Idaho?) who might be interested in getting
in contact with other local members and/or try to put a conference
together. Without starting a new forum thread, would it be possible for
you to
let us know who else is out here - even if it is just to state that
there are x number of registered members in Oregon/Washington?

Or would you prefer that I start a specific forum thread and
request readers to identify themselves as interested parties?"

I received an answer from Becca (what a great partner she is to Chris) stating:

"While we are working now to set up a "groups" module that
will allow folks in geographic proximity to find each other easily, but
it isn't going to happen quickly at this point.  I would recommend
starting a Washington/Oregon thread and see who pops up.  That seems to
be working really well for the Virginia people!"

So, I figured - what the hey - give it a shot and see if anyone is out
there. Much to my pleasant surprise we now have fourteen responders
spread across WA and OR.

Re meet-and-greet: Based on the distribution of folks in the immediate area - Aaron seems
the farthest north (WA side of the gorge) and "dickey45" the farthest
south (Corvallis) - perhaps somewhere around Oregon City would be a
central point?

Also, we need to find out what days folks are available. Being
semi/mostly-retired, I can do Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and the
weekend (I watch my 3-year old grandson Monday and Friday mornings).
Since many members work full-time, I would guess a weekend would be
best.

I'll cross-post this to the Pacific NW Group thread to keep the others
in the loop. I'm hoping that everyone will chime in with their email
addresses so that I don't have to keep cross-posting.  Smile

Re: Pacific NW Group

Sorry for the delay, I just realized this forum shows you new posts (duh on my part).  I'm about 5 blocks from campus on the corner of 29th and Lincoln (near Grant).  It is kind of handy because my husband can walk to work and we can get groceries for the First Alternative Food Coop a block away (often locally grown).  Our only problem with Corvallis is very high property taxes and the city won't let us rebuild our house without "taking" 26% of our property for greenspace and a sidewalk.  A big issue since the lot is only 110' x 50'.

My email is kh /at/ kathyandcalvin /dot/ com.

WorkerBee,

I saw that you are a bar/restraunt owner; are you interested in hosting a meet up?

Just throwing it out there...
It's be supporting the business of a "like mind" and it's relatively central for all of us.

Whatcha think?

Aaron,

Excellent suggestion! Like they used to say in the old Laurel & Hardy movies, "Good idea, Ollie!"  Laughing

I hope he responds. I tried to contact him via his email icon/link a few days ago but have not received a response. Hopefully he'll check this forum and respond.

Re: Pacific NW Group

Hi Sam and Aaron,

I appreciate the suggestion of hosting a meeting, but at this point in time I am more interested in participating than hosting.  I hope you understand.  Maybe at a later date after I have had a chance to meet everyone then I might be more comfortable with the idea.

Thanks

Hi Worker Bee,

We only had a small group today. Not as many people as I had hoped were able to make it. Frown  Karrie and her husband and Linda B. and her husband were there beside myself. It was nice to actually meet and get to know one another and share personal anecdotes.

Funnily enough, three of us were software engineers of one level or another, so we had something in common. That distracted us a bit as we found ourselves talking "bits and bytes" once in a while instead of the three E's! Embarassed  However, the others quickly yanked us back to the task at hand.

We talked about preparations that each of us was taking and the kinds of things we thought were important to consider. As could be expected, we discussed starting a garden and what kinds of things to grow.

We also discussed gold - how much to buy, where to buy it, cost differences (between American Eagle and Canadian Maple Leaf e.g.), availability, and where to store it (in the bank?, at home?). As Chris M. mentions, each of us has to decide how much is enough - it's quite a personal decision. For additional info: http://www.peakprosperity.com/buying_gold

One of the issues that came up was having sufficient medical supplies on hand if someone in the family has a chronic medical condition. No easy solution was readily at hand but it was agreed that every effort should be made to store up sufficient medicine to last a year - assuming that was doable.

Another side issue dealt with something that we haven't seen mentioned on any forums - at least none that I can recall. This was a tail end conversation after one couple had already left, but it certainly deserves some attention. In fact, I'm going to start a thread to get it out for discussion, so look for a new thread called: "When the chickens come home to roost!"

Bottom line, it was a good start and I'd like to do this at least once a month. Additional participants would help contribute to the dynamic so I hope we can get more people involved at the next get together.

Re: Pacific NW Group

Gold dealer that we use in Portland.

http://www.ajpm.com/htbin/gold.cgi

Walk in with cash, no questions asked, no paperwork, etc...

I asked if the reverse transaction is the same (selling) and they tell me it is.  Walk in with gold, walk out with cash.  No record of who you are, how much you sell, etc...   I imagine there must be some limit to that though.  I can't imagine walking in with say.... 10-20 OZ and selling on the spot for cash (can I?).

In any case, that's the link to the place we go.  There are others in town of course but AJPM seems to always have stock and it's centrally located just off the Morrison bridge.
