Obama interested in media bailouts - now Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan quietly buy media companies. Didn't take long!

Goldman Sachs and other lenders just swapped debt for 85% of Nassau Broadcasting Partners LP's equity. Nassau operates 51 radio stations along the East Coast. Nassau had to put its Cape Cod, Mass., stations into a separate company, because Goldman has another radio investment in Cape Cod and didn't want its stake to cause a conflict with the FCC.

Throw companies like Tribune into the mix where JP Morgan will allegedly end up with an majority equity stake, and one wonders why Goldman and JPM were so eager to provide "rescue" financings to virtually the entire distressed media space: both companies knew too well that sooner or later they would end up with full equity control over essentially the most coveted industry: thousands of TV stations, radio channels, newspaper and magazines. If you thought the media propaganda was unbearable now, just wait.

Alas, all these funds operate primarily out of their offshore accounts. So while they just now start the long, hard process of convincing the FCC they have nothing but the best P&L intentions, Goldman and JPM, or better known as the Treasury and the Fed, will have long cemented their controlling stakes in a streamlined, deleveraged media industry.

Which is more bizarre and surrealistic?

  1. Tyrannical fascism is upon us, out in the open and at break neck speed

    Or

  2. No one seems to notice

3. The ones who notice are labeled conspiracy theorists and dismissed by the majority.

The fact that no one seems to notice or care is more astonishing to me than anything else.

So, I have a question:

It would seem many on this site are awake or in process of awaking, yet (as mentioned in the comments above) the vast majority are asleep and do not wish to be woken up.

I'm guessing we're all in similar situations - having friends and family members who now avoid us, make fun of our opinions, or even worse.

Any suggestions for 'how to wake a sleeping sheeple?'

Cattleprod? . . . . Oh, nevermind, they've already got Tasers, and they don't seem to wake anybody up . . . It just ticks 'em off . . . .

Loved your comment and have to say, as Neil Sedaka put it so aptly, "Waking up is hard to do", and not only hard but often damned depressing, so the humor is truly appreciated!

Thanks, John . . . Glad to be of service . . . If it weren't for prayer and humor, I'd go insane, just about now . . . .

And, now that you mention it, I feel a rewrite of the lyrics for Neil's hit coming on . . .

They say that waking up is ha-ard to do . . .

Wear a smile; don't mind the batons.

Wipe tear gas from your eyes . . .

Help me out, here, people . . . Writing lyrics is not my forte

How about.......

They say that waking up is ha-ard to do

Now I know, I know that it's true.

Tase me,   beat in my head.

I really can't believe I ever questioned the Fed...
