Re: Must See

Very well produced video. Isn't it interesting how a well chosen soundtrack adds to the effectiveness of the message!

This does seem to get a response.  Some people I have emailed this to have told me they are ready for the Crash Course. Which is nice.

Grab must see videos and store them on your PC

Most older familymembers and friends don't have internet. For those i use this website http://www.techcrunch.com/get-youtube-movie/ to download youtube videos.

It is very refreshing to hear an honest and competent politician

Major BUMP - thanks, this is a very well done video - we can be sooo much better than we are. Yes, our problems are many but if we can become a fiscally responsible nation - we will have solved our greatest problem.

Interview with Nassim Nicholas Taleb, famous economist and author of “The Black Swan” and Dr. Mandelbrot, professor of Mathematics. Both say that the present economic situation is far more serious than the Great Depression and the economy during the American Revolution.

DrKrbyLuv, Agree on the major bump but not what it is.

I would welcome that as our greatest problem. I consider that one to be our second greatest problem with the population growth dependant upon an oil based economy to top the list. Shelter, food and lifestyle impacts will make our fiscal issues pale by comparison.

Sorry about the neo-Malthusian approach but it is there for all of us to see if we will only look. 70,000,000 more each year is a huge burden on the ole planet. Let's downsize by choice now.

Hard to believe that this article, "The Five Myths About the Gold Standard" was written by Ron Paul  in 1981, had they listened to him then we would not in the economic mess we are in today.

The full faith and backing of the US Government

Here is a scenario for you:

The US military is still the pre-eminent military force in the world and, with the exception of 2 or 3 countries in particular, would not, in the least, be slowed down by any country.  When Americans cannot get what they want.  They will take what they want.  Everyone knows this.  The value of the dollar is propped up by the US military and the American people's indifference to shedding its own blood to get what it wants.

The new incoming US Administration is perfect for the job since they will do anything to stay in power and have few principles.  Never bet against America.

This is not to say that Ron Paul or other like him are wrong.  They just didn't win.  Being right doesn't mean that you will win.  The guy that won is a great fit for what has to happen next.  Because the rest of the world won't be ready for the moves he will make.

We have never asked anything of any other nation except for a place to bury our dead.  The bills are coming due for other countries and we will be collecting.

Great links, Greg, keep 'em comin'.

I'm not familiar with this comedy show you linked to in your last post, but I love the host's different get-ups. Especially the one with the space-agey suit coat and 'stache.

Greg

Greg,

I don't know how you come up with so many good links - but glad you do. Smile

As regards Atlas Shrugged, I read it many, many years ago and was duly impressed with the relatively upstanding corporate denizens and their struggles against the government. Sad to say, my life experience has shown me that there are very few real-life examples.

Whilst I agree that over-regulation and/or absurd regulation is evil and needs to be slashed back, life experience has taught me that some regulation is necessary to rein in the greedy blood-suckers that run many of our top corporations - past and present: Lincoln Savings and Loan (Charles Keating), Enron, the Wall Street investment houses, Madoff, etc. I expect I could compile a fairly long list without working at it too hard

Too much regulation can be a death knell for business. Too little regulation can be a death knell for the average citizen (especially in the medical device area). Finding a good balance is the problem.

Re: Must See

Thanks Sam, glad to see that people like them. I think having honest money would go a long way in having more honest people.

http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=1826

"Let me give you a tip on a clue to men's characters: the man who damns money has obtained it dishonorably; the man who respects it has earned it.

"Run for your life from any man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper's bell of an approaching looter. So long as men live together on earth and need means to deal with one another--their only substitute, if they abandon money, is the muzzle of a gun.

"Then you will see the rise of the men of the double standard--the men who live by force, yet count on those who live by trade to create the value of their looted money--the men who are the hitchhikers of virtue. In a moral society, these are the criminals, and the statutes are written to protect you against them. But when a society establishes criminals-by-right and looters-by-law--men who use force to seize the wealth of disarmed victims--then money becomes its creators' avenger. Such looters believe it safe to rob defenseless men, once they've passed a law to disarm them. But their loot becomes the magnet for other looters, who get it from them as they got it. Then the race goes, not to the ablest at production, but to those most ruthless at brutality. When force is the standard, the murderer wins over the pickpocket. And then that society vanishes, in a spread of ruins and slaughter.

"Do you wish to know whether that day is coming? Watch money. Money is the barometer of a society's virtue. When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion--when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing--when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors--when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you--when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice--you may know that your society is doomed. Money is so noble a medium that is does not compete with guns and it does not make terms with brutality. It will not permit a country to survive as half-property, half-loot.
