Heroes of the Economy

All,

CNNMoney.com is asking for nominations for a future article about
heroes of the current economic crisis.

Here's a link to the article where you can use the comment pages.  I
recommend both posting and emailing your nomination:  http://cnnmoneytalkback.blogs.cnnmoney.cnn.com/2009/03/10/heros-of-the-economy/

Let's
nominate Chris Martenson!

Here's the text of the Talkback request:

"Do
you know any heroes of the economy? Someone like Leonard Abess, the
Miami banker who shared his $60 million bonus with his employees? Or
maybe someone acting on a smaller scale to help those suffering during
this recession. Maybe you? If so, post your recommendation in the
comments section below or email [email protected].
Your nominee could be profiled in an upcoming CNNMoney.com article.

We
are not looking for the big names that everyone already knows about. We
want to hear about everyday people making a difference in their
communities."

Just send them a little snippet about Chris
and what he has accomplished with the Crash Course.  Who knows, with
enough submissions it might get the Crash Course mentioned on
CNNMoney...

Thanks.

I doubt they are looking for Chris, but I nominated him anyway, along with Peter Schiff and Ron Paul.

Re: Heroes of the Economy

I sent them the following email:

Hello, I'm responding to your Talkback request for Heroes of the Economy.  I would like to nominate Dr. Chris Martenson (http://www.peakprosperity.com).
Chris is the creator of the video series, The Crash Course, which he
offers for free through his website.  Chris has dedicated the last 10
years studying the nature of our economic system and how it relates to
things like energy and the environment.  What he found, shocked him and
he became increasingly aprehensive that the fundamentals of our system
were not sound and that trouble lie ahead.  After making some very
drastic life changes, like quitting his 6 figure corporate VP position
for a major fortune 500 firm, and selling his large waterfront home and
moving into a small, 1,500 square foot rental home in the country.
Chris knew this was all coming, but what he didn't know was when.  He
thought it was going to come much sooner, but he forged ahead anyway,
developing community ties and educating others about the unstable
nature of our current economy.  He started a lecture series, The End of
Money, which was designed to inform others about the potential problems
with our money system, the ensuing housing bubble, and future energy
scarcity.

When he realized that he needed to reach more people, he began work on
a consensed video version of his lecture which he entitled, The Crash
Course.  He started work on the Crash Course in 2007 and completed it
by early 2008.  Chris put up a website, www.PeakProsperity.com, where
he released the series one chapter at a time for everyone to view for
free, and blogged about the varios topics presented in the course.  The
series became a sensation earning Chris' site a position in the top
15,000 websites viewed in North Americal.  Since then, the work has
attracted thousands of people the the crash course has been viewed over
600,000 times.  It was recently made available on YouTube where it is
reaching new audiences.  In late 2008, a DVD version of the Crash
Course was released that Chris sold at cost.  Over 20,000 copies were
sold in weeks just in time for the Christmas Holiday season.  Chirs
offered the DVD for sale for a little over a dollar and incentivized
individuals to distribute it by allowing them to sell the DVDs for $10
(and keep the money).  Hardly anyone sold them at the MSRP and
virtually all of the DVDs were given away as gifts, donated to
libraries, schools, etc.

Recently, Chris was filmed by PBS station WGBY.  The two hour segment
was a fund-drive success.  The broadcast can be viewed here:
http://www.wgby.org/podcasts/index.html (scroll down to  The Crash
Course: The End of Money?)

What is so striking about the Crash Course is how it connects all of
the pieces of the puzzle into a concise, accessible, and easy to
understand body of work.  The material is clearly laid out and even
things like exponential growth, fiat currency, money creation,
inflation, bubbles, energy extraction, resource depletion, etc. become
instantly understandable to even the least informed individual.

And that's what made it such a phenomenon.

I began volunteering for Chris, along with many others, to spread the
word about the Crash Course near the end of 2008.  I find him to be a
man of great conviction and a person who posesses an overwhelming
concern for his fellow man.  He deeply cares about people and pours
every ounce of his soul into helping people through these troubling
times with the gift of education.  His mission is non-profit and all
proceeds from advertisement on his website go into furthering the
message.

I hope you will consider mentioning Chris in one of your upcoming
articles.  His message is necessary and, through a combination of
education and local, community outreach, he can without a doubt be
described as a hero of the economy.

Thanks for your time.

Sincerely,

Lucas Altic

A little long-winded but hopefully someone will read it.

I was able to put in a good word, along with a link back to the Crash Course.  I would suggest others add a link back as well since they allow html strings.

I responded as well, voting Chris not only as a "hero of the economy", but a "hero for sustainability".

Re: Heroes of the Economy

Hi everybody. How do you explain that if you do a search with google (not using the link Lukas sent us) for cnnmoneytalkback.blogs there is not one SINGLE mention of all these nominations? Instead there are a lot of nominations for Karl Denninger at www.market-tigger.org

and since 3 days there are only 30 comments posted.....

as a matter of fact I sent my nomination for CC on saturday 14th, and it was posted just a minute after.

Then a few hours later I decided to do another nomination for an interesting site, in Spanish, explaining very well the Peak Oil Phenomenom www.cenit-del-petroleo.com and the nomination for CC was immediately deleted.

So I don't quite understand what's going on? Just check what I'm saying at http://cnnmoneytalkback.blogs.cnnmoney.cnn.com/2009/03/10/heros-of-the-e... (European time 11.10 pm)

My post is now online. They are checking comments before making them available and they have stated it on their website. Maybe it's just because these guys had a weekend like all of us.

Re: Heroes of the Economy

Although Denninger still dominates, I can see that my post- (as well as many other familiar names from this board) are on there, I would say that Chris is the 2nd or 3rd most mentioned name on there now.  Special thanks to Luc for suggesting this timely drive.

Tonight there are many of our nominations. And they accept double nomination. That is I nominated CC with a link to Chris page, but also this other one on the Oil Peak and both are now posted.

Re: Heroes of the Economy

I posted on 16th Mar, so I'll check and see how long it takes... There were 93 posts at that time and almost all at the top of the list were for Chris. Its looking better, don't stop now, it looks like we could overwhelm them.

Re: Heroes of the Economy

I checked back 2 hrs later, and mine was posted. Looks like it is working - if you haven't posted your nomination, now is the time. Chris could make a huge difference if we can get this kind of publicity. Since things have to change, it only makes sense to ensure that the change is complete and timely. All governments are doing right now is waste time, opportunity and money (money that they haven't got).

Re: Heroes of the Economy

I just checked it out and there are a TON of nominations for Chris.  Great work everyone!  The response was overwhelming.  Hopefully Chris will get picked.  If nothing else, the nominations might get the site a little higher on the google rankings due to the URL links!
