Gapminder.org

I recently discovered an excellent website called Gapminder. You can find it by going to:

gapminder.org

It was originated by a Swedish college professor named Hans Rosling. What it offers is a set of statistical tools that allows you to look at how different world issues affect one another. Categories include Income, GDP, Inflation, Education, Health, Oil Consumption, etc.

The genius of it is that it allows you to animate the results and view the interactions over time. Extremely eye opening, though also addictive. Plan to have a spare hour or so before checking it out. There are also several videos of Rosling speaking on different issues utilizing his animated charts in a dramatic way.

Well worth a visit.

Here's another great resource:

http://www.worldmapper.org/index.html

Worldmapper is a collection of world maps, where territories are re-sized on each map according to the subject of interest. It mau not sound all that interesting but in fact it is a great way of demonstrating various important differences in the way people live in different parts of the world, and the impact that could/will have on us.
