This article came out today. Interesting how much gold the IMF holds and how little we know about the gold the U.S. holds? The rest of the top 5 gold holders around the world.

The sixth largest gold holdings in the world are held in SPDR Gold Shares a gold exchange traded fund that was introduced on the New York Stock Exchange some six years ago.

There's your "swing vote" . IMO highly vulnerable to mo-mo monkey general market melt down.

Naturally GLD is not included in the world's official gold holdings. http://www.gold.org/assets/file/value/stats/statistics/archive/pdf/World_Official_Gold_Holdings_September_2010.pdf

There is also some speculation the SPDR gold might not be as stated due to counterparty risk.
