Mesmerizing self-sufficiency youtube channel

A friend just turned me on to this you tube channel of young Chinese woman who makes makes food in the traditional Szechuan way: fermented foods, holiday favorites, meat and fish dishes, wildcrafted ginseng, mushroom, etc. She makes structures, sews clothing, makes paper, makeup, medicine all without electricity or gas.  She is clearly very skilled with a cleaver and other tools.  Really mesmerizing and relaxing to view. No words, and often no English subtitles: just chill music and the actions of a clearly capable woman who knows how to survive without modern conveniences (although she clearly has access to in one video she leaves her grandmothers compound to go back to an apartment in the city.)

Apparently she was orphaned at an early age and raised by her grandparents in a small village near Mianyang of Sichuan province in Southwest China.  Her grandfather had a catering business cooking traditional foods in the old style for festivals and weddings, so this how she is so conversant in these methods.  As a young woman she went to the big city to find her fortune and worked alot of low paying jobs: kitchen, waiting tables, music DJ. After her grandfather died she moved back to her village to care for her grandmother.

I have read criticisms that is state sponsored propaganda to show people rural life is bliss, or that she is just an actress and it is all staged. But she clearly knows what she is doing. She shot videos on her iPhone6 and early ones lack professionalism, but her Weibo channel got so popular she was able to hire a videographer and the quality is excellent now. Some stateside fans got her a youtube channel, and judging by the millions of views each video is getting she is making some serious change.

Anyway, if you are feeling stressed and need a quick pick me up,(and who does not fit that description?)  I can recommend these might transport you to a simpler time and give you a mini armchair vacation.  Here is a link to get you started.  Many more than that.

Whoo-hooooo!  Late this afternoon I caught the tail end of  swarm of Painted Ladies while driving on Hwy. 99, Modesto area in California. Whatsitallabout:

This was a most welcome surprise after a long and difficult day.  Yeah!

(Not sure where else to post this inspiration on PP, too far in advance of "Good News Friday.")
