Proof is in the pudding AO and that is you don’t understand fully the purpose of ZM, but enjoy this read:

Spirituality has a different meaning to each of us, it seems. A standard definition would be: “A sense of meaning and purpose; a sense of self and of a relationship with ‘that which is greater than self”.

Currently, Religion and Mysticism seem to have the monopoly on Spirituality. Theistic religion often regards a ‘relationship with god’ or divine creator, as a spiritual relationship, while Mystics will often find a relationship to a ‘supernatural’ force or power. The bottom line is that, almost universally, spirituality has to do with a ‘relationship’ on one level or another. In most perspectives, it is associated with a person’s ‘place’ or ‘meaning’ in life… whatever that may be.

As subjective as these things can be, we begin to recognize changes in these notions, for social progress tends to carve a path for understandings that stand the test of time. In the modern age, we have the ability to look far in our past and examine what our ancestors used to consider ‘real’, and then compare those ideas to what we understand today. Many “spiritual practices” which have existed in the past, no longer exist due the understandings that have come about in regard to natural phenomenon. As a base example, early religions often ‘sacrificed’ animals for certain purposes… this rarely happens today, as the relevance of such an act has proven pointless in its desired effect. Likewise, rarely do people perform ‘raindances’ in order to influence the weather… today we understand how weather patterns are created, and ritual practices have no provable effect.

Similarly, the idea of ‘praying’ to a god for a particular request, has also statistically proven to have little effect on an outcome, not to mention the evidence to support a personified creator doesn’t exist in any scientific way…rather it is often derived from ancient historical literary speculation and tradition.

Establishment Religion, in many ways, seems to be rooted in a perceptual misunderstanding about life’s processes. For instance, it presents a worldview which often puts the human on a different level than other elements of nature. This ‘spiritual ego’ has led to dramatic conflicts for generations, not only between human beings, but inadvertently between us and the environment itself.

However, as time has moved forward, Science has shown how human beings are subject to the exact same forces of nature as everything else. We have learned that we all share the same atomic substructure as trees, birds and all other forms of life. We have learned that we cannot live without nature’s elements… we need clean air to breathe, food to eat, energy from the sun, etc. When we understand this Symbiotic relationship of life, we begin to see that as far as ‘relationships’ are concerned, our relationship to the planet is the most profound and important. The medium by which this is expressed, is Science, for the Scientific Method has allowed us insight into these natural processes, so we can better understand how we ‘fit’ into this life system as a whole.

This could be called a ‘spiritual’ awakening.

This realization, which has been proven by science, is that humans are no different from any other form of nature, while our integrity is only as good as the integrity of our environment, to which we are a part. This understanding presents an entirely different ‘spiritual’ worldview, for it forces the idea of interdependence and connection, at its core.

The interconnection of the whole of life is undeniable in the most basic sense, and it is this perpetual ‘relationship’ of total interconnectivity that is not fully realized by society overall. Thus, our modes of conduct and perception are largely out of line with nature itself… and hence destructive.

Nature itself is our teacher, and our social institutions and philosophies should be derived from this foundational and, invariably, ‘spiritual’ understanding.

The faster this spiritual awakening spreads, the more sane, peaceful and productive society will become.

JK,

The fact of the matter is that I all too well understand what is behind ZM.  I’ve been down the road you’re still on and found out the bridge was washed out.  Your zealousness reminds me of those adherents of other religions and  -isms who thought they’ve found THE answer and it winds up being a huge disappointment.  You seem to think it’s a complex philosophy beyond the understanding of most mere mortals.  It’s not.  In fact, it’s an oversimplication.  Just because we don’t agree doesn’t mean we don’t understand.  Personally, I find your patronizing attitude unnecessary.  If you’d care to compare IQs, education, etc., I think you’d find that I’m easily your equal (heaven forbid, a hint of competition) so I think I have an inkling of what you’re talking about.  Let me sum it up in the simplest terms you can understand since you seem obsessed with simplicity and understanding.  This dog won’t hunt.  I’m not going to waste any more time on this subject because it simply doesn’t deserve it.  If you want to life your life based on these principles, go at it and prove the unbelievers wrong.  It’s a free country (well, partially … at least, for now).

Well AO in due time I guess we will see.  You know I understand that the RBE will not happen anytime soon, I know this, it’s about getting the information out, from there people will emerge and understand that HEY here is an alternative to our society and the way we run it.  There is no NWO agenda behind the ZM.

If you think the ZM doesn’t propose much of anything, can someone please tell me what exactly does CM or the Crash Course propose that’s going to solve the world’s problems? Is learning how to build a bunker, or canning foods, or “god, guns & gold”, or abolishing the fed, or going back to the gold standard going to solve our global problems? I’m totally into building resilient communities and localization efforts like Transition Towns, but I don’t think those efforts alone are going to get it. I also see a total scarcity mindset within the CM principles. Yes, it’s true we have real scarcity, but only because our systems are based upon scarcity. CM does a great job of pointing out what’s wrong with all of our systems, but I fail to see exactly what solutions he proposes, other than every-man-for-himself, live on less, buy gold, and learn permaculture.

I listened to A World Worth Inheriting: Two Beers With Steve. Great stuff, but again what exactly is he proposing that is going to address our systemic and fundamental problems that are based opon our flawed, scarcity-driven, competitive systems?

Trwiley, Great Points.

You hear the same old talking points from economists, politicians and so on, all thinking within the limited frame of reference of monetary economics.  It would be nice if society truly knew the real state of technology.  I’d rather have a world of sustainability then the crap we are being fed and told to uphold.  It was JP Morgan who cringed at the thought of Letting Tesla give people Free abundant energy.  First off what is wrong with getting something FREE through automation ending scarcity based on what is relevant?  FREE is used in advertising to bring in people, Capitalist love FREE labor, BUY 1 GET 1 FREE!!!  Hard concept to grasp but again I would suggest read all the ZM material and then some.

Politicians are put in power to Keep things the way they are fundamentally speaking and not to introduce a real paradigm shift for society.

Gloves off!!!

What I like about Peter Joseph is how he consistently says “F*ck You!” to the establishment. The original Zeitgeist film began a journey for many in the bloggosphere to go out and question everything within it. The film is flippant, arrogant and insulting to every single belief carried by almost every member of the American public …

… I’d call that a catalyst …

The establishment has used every device possible to shut it up and kick it down, yet it just keeps on standing right back up and shouting at the top of its voice. And my, what tactic’s the media plays!

What is really happening though. What is it that it is doing that has never been seen at such a grand scale before?

It’s waking people up!!! As George Carlin once said, “… the American Dream, co’s you have to be asleep to believe it”, and as you’re more than aware on this site, the American dream is completely dead and only the media is keeping the public confused to that fact!

Shadow stats is stating 22% of the US is unemployed. I’m finding figures estimating 25% of the UK is now unemployed, yet the media is saying there was growth in the housing market in the last 3 months. What a pile of Cr*p! It’s down 12% where I am, do they think they can keep this facade up for much longer?

Individual truckers are estimating an extra £1100 added to their fuel bill this year with taxes, does that mean they won’t go out of business or the price of food isn’t going to go up? 48% of the food eaten in the UK is imported and transported by road!

The lies we hear every day are massive. Newspapers and news readers; journalists paid to create spin. Advertising companies promoting war, live on your television screens right across the United States!!!

Your comedians are where youth are getting their news, and this is normal???

Whatever you think the Iraq war is from your average media evening meal standpoint, it just damn well isn’t that at all. It’s the kind of news I bet all of you have trouble getting through the first 11 minutes of its reality:-

John Snow’s Hidden Iraq

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3886376311962177051

It isn’t really what you as an individual feel about any of this, any more than me. It’s about the ground swell of the majority, or of the tipping point of awareness that Dr Martenson most often quotes.

I watch such corageous things get smashed out of all sense of what they mean all too often. History proves it again and again. I can write and post you things to look at that can make you think, but all too often, its missed, wandered past; too long for my liking. Too much meat in one mouthful.

For me, I open every link you post and read. Digest all of the words that are written. Try doing that this time, just once, for me. After all, it was Zeitgeist that made me start to question what I’d been sold, and there just has to be a counter arguement in amongst this lot to aid another pointless reply …

Perception Management

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perception_management

[snippet]

The U.S. military had been accused of manipulating the media in Iraq in order to achieve their pro-war goals, by secretly paying Iraqi journalists to publish stories written by U.S. soldiers. According to the article “The Man Who Sold The War” by James Bamford in the recent edition of Rolling Stone magazine, John Rendon and his Rendon Group, the leader in strategic field of perception management, was awarded a $16 million contract from the Pentagon “to target Iraq and other adversaries with propaganda.”

[snippet]

More recently, the U.S. government has used perception management techniques to promote the belief that weapons of mass destruction were indeed being manufactured in Iraq, and that Iraq had aided and assisted the Al Quaeda terrorists responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks upon the World Trade Center. These “facts” were, in part, the government’s justification for invading Iraq and beginning the war. A man named John Rendon has been very influential in creating the conditions necessary to justify the war in Iraq. Rendon’s firm, the Rendon Group, has had close ties with the U.S. government ever since 1991, when the CIA hired the firm to help “create the conditions for the removal of Hussein from power.”

Rendon Group

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rendon_Group

[snippet]

Rendon was also a major player in the CIA’s effort to encourage the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. In May 1991, then-President George H. W. Bush signed a presidential finding directing the CIA to create the conditions for Hussein’s removal. The hope was that members of the Iraqi military would turn on Hussein and stage a military coup. The CIA did not have the mechanisms in place to make that happen, so they hired the Rendon Group to run a covert anti-Saddam propaganda campaign. Rendon’s postwar work involved producing videos and radio skits ridiculing Saddam Hussein, a traveling photo exhibit of Iraqi atrocities, and radio scripts calling on Iraqi army officers to defect.

Rolling Stone Magazine – The Man Who Sold The War

James Bamford’s November 17th, 2005 profile of John Rendon, “The Man Who Sold the War,”  won the 2006 National Magazine Award in the reporting category.

The road to war in Iraq led through many unlikely places. One of them was a chic hotel nestled among the strip bars and brothels that cater to foreigners in the town of Pattaya, on the Gulf of Thailand.

On December 17th, 2001, in a small room within the sound of the crashing tide, a CIA officer attached metal electrodes to the ring and index fingers of a man sitting pensively in a padded chair. The officer then stretched a black rubber tube, pleated like an accordion, around the man’s chest and another across his abdomen. Finally, he slipped a thick cuff over the man’s brachial artery, on the inside of his upper arm.

Strapped to the polygraph machine was Adnan Ihsan Saeed al-Haideri, a forty-three-year-old Iraqi who had fled his homeland in Kurdistan and was now determined to bring down Saddam Hussein. For hours, as thin mechanical styluses traced black lines on rolling graph paper, al-Haideri laid out an explosive tale. Answering yes and no to a series of questions, he insisted repeatedly that he was a civil engineer who had helped Saddam’s men to secretly bury tons of biological, chemical and nuclear weapons. The illegal arms, according to al-Haideri, were buried in subterranean wells, hidden in private villas, even stashed beneath the Saddam Hussein Hospital, the largest medical facility in Baghdad.

It was damning stuff — just the kind of evidence the Bush administration was looking for. If the charges were true, they would offer the White House a compelling reason to invade Iraq and depose Saddam. That’s why the Pentagon had flown a CIA polygraph expert to Pattaya: to question al-Haideri and confirm, once and for all, that Saddam was secretly stockpiling weapons of mass destruction.

There was only one problem: It was all a lie. After a review of the sharp peaks and deep valleys on the polygraph chart, the intelligence officer concluded that al-Haideri had made up the entire story, apparently in the hopes of securing a visa.

The fabrication might have ended there, the tale of another political refugee trying to scheme his way to a better life. But just because the story wasn’t true didn’t mean it couldn’t be put to good use. Al-Haideri, in fact, was the product of a clandestine operation — part espionage, part PR campaign — that had been set up and funded by the CIA and the Pentagon for the express purpose of selling the world a war. And the man who had long been in charge of the marketing was a secretive and mysterious creature of the Washington establishment named John Rendon.

Rendon is a man who fills a need that few people even know exists. Two months before al-Haideri took the lie-detector test, the Pentagon had secretly awarded him a $16 million contract to target Iraq and other adversaries with propaganda. One of the most powerful people in Washington, Rendon is a leader in the strategic field known as “perception management,” manipulating information — and, by extension, the news media — to achieve the desired result. His firm, the Rendon Group, has made millions off government contracts since 1991, when it was hired by the CIA to help “create the conditions for the removal of Hussein from power.” Working under this extraordinary transfer of secret authority, Rendon assembled a group of anti-Saddam militants, personally gave them their name — the Iraqi National Congress — and served as their media guru and “senior adviser” as they set out to engineer an uprising against Saddam. It was as if President John F. Kennedy had outsourced the Bay of Pigs operation to the advertising and public-relations firm of J. Walter Thompson.

“They’re very closemouthed about what they do,” says Kevin McCauley, an editor of the industry trade publication O’Dwyer’s PR Daily. “It’s all cloak-and-dagger stuff.”

Although Rendon denies any direct involvement with al-Haideri, the defector was the latest salvo in a secret media war set in motion by Rendon. In an operation directed by Ahmad Chalabi — the man Rendon helped install as leader of the INC — the defector had been brought to Thailand, where he huddled in a hotel room for days with the group’s spokesman, Zaab Sethna. The INC routinely coached defectors on their stories, prepping them for polygraph exams, and Sethna was certainly up to the task — he got his training in the art of propaganda on the payroll of the Rendon Group. According to Francis Brooke, the INC’s man in Washington and himself a former Rendon employee, the goal of the al-Haideri operation was simple: pressure the United States to attack Iraq and overthrow Saddam Hussein.

As the CIA official flew back to Washington with failed lie-detector charts in his briefcase, Chalabi and Sethna didn’t hesitate. They picked up the phone, called two journalists who had a long history of helping the INC promote its cause and offered them an exclusive on Saddam’s terrifying flush of WMDs.

For the worldwide broadcast rights, Sethna contacted Paul Moran, an Australian freelancer who frequently worked for the Australian Broadcasting Corp. “I think I’ve got something that you would be interested in,” he told Moran, who was living in Bahrain. Sethna knew he could count on the trim, thirty-eight-year-old journalist: A former INC employee in the Middle East, Moran had also been on Rendon’s payroll for years in “information operations,” working with Sethna at the company’s London office on Catherine Place, near Buckingham Palace.

“We were trying to help the Kurds and the Iraqis opposed to Saddam set up a television station,” Sethna recalled in a rare interview broadcast on Australian television. “The Rendon Group came to us and said, ‘We have a contract to kind of do anti-Saddam propaganda on behalf of the Iraqi opposition.’ What we didn’t know — what the Rendon Group didn’t tell us — was in fact it was the CIA that had hired them to do this work.”

The INC’s choice for the worldwide print exclusive was equally easy: Chalabi contacted Judith Miller of The New York Times. Miller, who was close to I. Lewis Libby and other neoconservatives in the Bush administration, had been a trusted outlet for the INC’s anti-Saddam propaganda for years. Not long after the CIA polygraph expert slipped the straps and electrodes off al-Haideri and declared him a liar, Miller flew to Bangkok to interview him under the watchful supervision of his INC handlers. Miller later made perfunctory calls to the CIA and Defense Intelligence Agency, but despite her vaunted intelligence sources, she claimed not to know about the results of al-Haideri’s lie-detector test. Instead, she reported that unnamed “government experts” called his information “reliable and significant” — thus adding a veneer of truth to the lies.

Her front-page story, which hit the stands on December 20th, 2001, was exactly the kind of exposure Rendon had been hired to provide. AN IRAQI DEFECTOR TELLS OF WORK ON AT LEAST 20 HIDDEN WEAPONS SITES, declared the headline. “An Iraqi defector who described himself as a civil engineer,” Miller wrote, “said he personally worked on renovations of secret facilities for biological, chemical and nuclear weapons in underground wells, private villas and under the Saddam Hussein Hospital in Baghdad as recently as a year ago.” If verified, she noted, “his allegations would provide ammunition to officials within the Bush administration who have been arguing that Mr. Hussein should be driven from power partly because of his unwillingness to stop making weapons of mass destruction, despite his pledges to do so.”

For months, hawks inside and outside the administration had been pressing for a pre-emptive attack on Iraq. Now, thanks to Miller’s story, they could point to “proof” of Saddam’s “nuclear threat.” The story, reinforced by Moran’s on-camera interview with al-Haideri on the giant Australian Broadcasting Corp., was soon being trumpeted by the White House and repeated by newspapers and television networks around the world. It was the first in a long line of hyped and fraudulent stories that would eventually propel the U.S. into a war with Iraq — the first war based almost entirely on a covert propaganda campaign targeting the media.

By law, the Bush administration is expressly prohibited from disseminating government propaganda at home. But in an age of global communications, there is nothing to stop it from planting a phony pro-war story overseas — knowing with certainty that it will reach American citizens almost instantly. A recent congressional report suggests that the Pentagon may be relying on “covert psychological operations affecting audiences within friendly nations.” In a “secret amendment” to Pentagon policy, the report warns, “psyops funds might be used to publish stories favorable to American policies, or hire outside contractors without obvious ties to the Pentagon to organize rallies in support of administration policies.” The report also concludes that military planners are shifting away from the Cold War view that power comes from superior weapons systems. Instead, the Pentagon now believes that “combat power can be enhanced by communications networks and technologies that control access to, and directly manipulate, information. As a result, information itself is now both a tool and a target of warfare.”

An Iraqi defector who described himself as a civil engineer said he personally worked on renovations of secret facilities for biological, chemical and nuclear weapons in underground wells, private villas and under the Saddam Hussein Hospital in Baghdad as recently as a year ago.

The defector, Adnan Ihsan Saeed al-Haideri, gave details of the projects he said he worked on for President Saddam Hussein’s government in an extensive interview last week in Bangkok.

Government experts said yesterday that he had also been interviewed twice by American intelligence officials, who were trying to verify his claims. One of the officials said he thought Mr. Saeed had been taken to a secure location. The experts said his information seemed reliable and significant.

Judith Miller (born January 2, 1948) is a Pulitzer Prize winning American journalist, formerly of the New York Times in Washington D.C. Her coverage of Iraq’s alleged Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) program both before and after the 2003 invasion has garnered much controversy. Her involvement in the disclosure of the identity of a covert CIA agent, Valerie Plame also made her a high-profile media personality. She spent three months in jail for claiming reporter’s privilege and refusing to reveal her sources in the CIA leak. Miller retired from her job at the New York Times in November 2005. As of October, 2008 she is a contributor to the Fox News Channel and a fellow at the conservative Manhattan Institute think-tank.

Thanks crash for the suggestion to rewatch chapter 20, which I just did. It confirmed what I see as an orientation toward egocentric and ethnocentric action. It is egocentric in his suggestions on how we can prepare for our individual needs if TSHTF. It’s ethnocentric in that Chris says we need to move from a “me to a we”, which is great, but it’s about our community. What about the “we” being the whole planet? It’s offers no worldcentric solutions, yet that’s what we need because they are global problems. The shit has already hit the fan in many parts of the world, when we consider that over a billion people go hungry, we are running out of oil, we are depleting world resources, deforestation, polution, on and on.

I see no solution from CM for preventing or correcting these global problems, just that we need to accept them and prepare for them. What about preventing them? To just accept that we have to prepare for living in a world with less is scarcity thinking. And frankly to just accept that that’s how our future is going to be, and bunker down for it, is a cop out. The Zeitgeist movement is looking to prevent it, and is looking at the fundamental underlying causes for all the hockey stick graphs that CM discusses.

If you stop thinking about whether it’s possible for a moment and just look at what would happen, what would be the results, of a world without money. How simple would everything become? How much your life would improve? How much abundance would there be to meet the whole worlds’ needs? How this solve many, if not most, of the worlds problems? How this would end the polarities and dualities within humanity that threatens to end our civilization.

I oftern think how powerful it could be if CM could team up with the ZM. Wow. Then we could take action for the sake of humanity and not just ourselves.

CM and ZM collaborating would be a great Idea, some people may not like that for whatever reason, but it’s about collaboration not competition that is vital to solve our GLOBAL problem.  I too see no true alternative specially coming out of Washington, or other economist, ZM goes to the source and does not promote continual patch work that we see from status quo.

WE expect the very same people who got us into this mess to correct it?  That’s like going to the same doctor who keeps giving you the wrong medicine.

The money/profit structure has more deadly side effects then perks for a global society, not to mention reinforces a value system that is destroying the modern family more specifically in the U.S.

I’ll conclude with an excerpt from Michael Rupperts Book COLLAPSE, it speaks VERY LOUD

” If we have ben lied to about mortgages, 401 (k)s, stock portfolios, hedge, funds, derivatives, insider trading, Ponzi schemes, appraised values, credit ratings, and adjustable rates, if we’ve been lied to by Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers, AIG and Citigroup, Bernie Maddoff and Stanford Financial; if we were lied to about the invasion of Iraq, and torture; even about steroids in Baseball- then why do so many accept on the faith everything we have been sold about energy?  Why accept it, especially when the people telling us about energy are the same folks who lied to us about everything else?”

    Requiem For Detroit

The vision I gained from Dr Martenson when he said “The next twenty years are going to be completely unlike the last twenty years”, was brought into greater clarity when I watched Requiem For Detroit, an amazing BBC documentary, just over a week ago. I fear the next twenty years will see prairy land and nature take back many cities of the United States, without any mercy to man’s supposed accomplishments …

A generous soul at You Tube has uploaded the whole of Requiem For Detroit.

This is a wonderful documentary, with generous detail and compassion for a dying city. Be warned mind, it holds back no punches …

You’d also better be quick and watch it before You Tube pulls it!
