We are getting ready to "officially" launch the Crash Course YouTube page. It’s been up for almost a month now, but it has only had a modified Chapter 19 trailer posted. I now have access to all 20 chapters and we will be releasing the first 19 simultaneously. In order to move forward with this, I need a little help.
Here is what is needed:
1. Someone who can help out with uploading the files (they are downloadable from an FTP server)
2. Someone who is interested in writing short descriptions for each chapter.
3. After the videos are uploaded, we need everyone with a YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, Blog, Website, Message Board, etc. to link to one or more of the YouTube videos or the YouTube channel for syndication.
Please respond if you think you can contribute to #1 or #2. The sooner we get those tasks completed, the sooner we can launch the channel and begin spreading the Crash Course into the Social Networking arena. I’ll provide additional instructions once the spots are filled.

I can help with all of them, just tell me what to do, although i’ve never downloaded from an FTP server. Is there a specific client i’d need first?
Futuo and all,
I actually have the uploading taken care of. Turns out I can "bulk" upload to YouTube so I am able to do it relatively quickly.
What I still need is someone to write up the descriptions. I don’t want to take you away from the Facebook project, but you seem to be a pretty good writer. Let me know if you wanna take a crack at it…
I’m definitely for it. When do you need them by? This’ll give me a good excuse to finally watch the course over again =]
I would like to have them within the next day or so, but whatever your schedule allows.
My plan is to upload Chapters 1 – 19 soon. It is MUCH easier to include the descriptions during the upload, so if you think you can get them done relatively soon, I’ll wait to upload them.
The descriptions only need to be 2 – 3 sentences giving a brief summary of the course designed to attract a potential viewer’s attention. Look that the description for Chapter 19 at http://www.youtube.com/ChrisMartensondotcom for an example.
If for any reason you need the YouTube raws, let me know and I will give you access to our FTP server.
I also just want to add that I’m very impressed with your initiative. We are grateful to have you on the team!

Assuming the raws are the same as or similar to the Crash Course, I don’t see any reason why I should need them.
With regards to my "initiative" – someone’s got to do it, and I’m more than happy to. I just hope that no one else out there feels like i’m dominating the brigade. It would be nice to see a little more involvement though.
Here’s what I have so far:
Chapter 1 (Three Beliefs): Chris states his three beliefs: massive change is upon us, that change may overwhelm our ability to respond, and that we do not lack the technology or understanding necessary to build a better future. The next 20 years are not going to be anything like the past 20 years.
Chapter 2 (The Three "E"s): Understanding our current situation requires acknowledging that the Economy, Energy, and the Environment are all related; in short, that each "E" influences, and competes for our attention with, the others. We have never simultaneously faced these issues at such levels, yet none of them can be solved in isolation.
Chapter 3 (Exponential Growth): The most important key concept of the Crash Course, expontential growth demonstrates how world population, oil consumption, U.S. money supply, water use, forest loss, species extinction, and fishery exploitation are rapidly reaching their natural limits. The implications for your life are powerful, and demand attention.
That’s all i’ve got for right now. Hopefully that’s the type of description you’re looking for. Feel free to twist them around however you’d like, of course.
That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Great job. These are perfect.
Keep posting them as a reply to this thread.
Thanks very much.
The YouTube launch is a little behind schedule. As it turns out, the YouTube versions of the videos were incorrectly mastered so some of them have to be re-done. While that is in progress, the official launch will have to wait. That should also give Futuo time to finish the descriptions.
Is anyone interested in posting something in the public forums similar to what Futuo did with the Facebook page when the time comes?
Here’s three more. Unfortunately, I leave for a debate tournament in Iowa tomorrow morning,
and won’t be getting back until Sunday. So, assuming we want the YouTube videos
uploaded with descriptions, someone else is going to have to take over from
here. Or you can wait till next week (perhaps as early as Sunday night) for me
to finish them up. Just let me know.
Chapter 4 (The Power
of Compounding): Compounding, the first Key Concept of the Crash Course is
explained in this installment. Dr. Martenson draws on a paper by Dr. Albert
Bartlett explaining the dangerous implications of steady rates of growth, from
oil consumption to population: as Chris says, "With exponential functions, the
action only heats up in the last few moments". The paper can be found here.
Chapter 5 (Growth Vs. Prosperity): Contrary to what
we’ve grown used to, growth is not the same thing as prosperity. In fact,
growth and prosperity are both dependant on the same thing: surplus.
Chris explains how we’ve been conditioned to want, and to take, both growth and
prosperity; however, we are approaching the limits of our physical, finite,
earth – the amount of surplus is steadily declining.
Chapter 6 (What is Money?):
What is a dollar? Sure, it allows us to buy things like food, cars, and
iPods; yet, most of us don’t really understand money beyond that. Chris not
only provides an understandable definition, but also explains what gives our
green pieces of paper value, and what dangers any currency must face.
What is the current status of the YouTube launch? I see that only Chapter 19 is posted. Is there anything I/we can do?
