We are preparing for Civil War
Team, I have a serious question given we are approx one month away from election in the US. My family and I discussed that whether Trump wins or NOT, we will have raised tensions in the US. The question is: Are we prepared enough? Even though we have supplies and a living garden with ammo and all, I still don’t feel completely safe from the crazzies that will pop up all over the place trying to find food and supplies from people like us. Here are some options we’ve thought of….(all temporary solutions until things boil over)
- get a larger boat and liveaboard for the next while
- fly away to Canada or some island for a while
- fly into a US island where we won’t have as much civil unrest
- buy an RV and go away to a remote place
- getting a property with land that is isolated and takes time to build up (this may not be viable due to costs and time)
Is anyone else as concerned as I am given what we are seeing the military and other political groups are doing to change over to the new order? Advice is GREATLY appreciated!!!
Great question and one I ponder constantly since I’m in NYC (aka Berlin 1939 or Moscow 1918 if that’s ones pref) What or who do you perceive are the “military and other political groups are doing to change over to the new order?”. Can you share some examples that rise to the level of concern your sharing?
Additionally, to offer you advise one would need to know more about your general environment ie proximity to: a city of [say] 500,000 or more, known “militia” groups, military bases, Fusion centers, prisons/jails, water (you mentioned a boat) ie coast line or lakes, regional/international airport. Whatever you think would make your scenario more relevant or refined.
Is there a “Fort Sumner” event you you worry about beyond the POTUS refusing the election results? martial law, maybe “Kristallnacht”, “mushroom cloud”, bioweapon 2.0? ugh! (scaring myself now)
Do you own a hard wallet with bitcoin on it? or do you intend to drag gold and fiat around? Will the credit cards still work?
The Kindle novel “Turn Red Tomorrow” for $5 recommended by James Rawles is a compendium of answers for you.
Also Phil Williams 2050 novels and Rawls’ novels.
thesecuritygirl & 000 – I believe there are many with their antennas up and if not, they should be up indeed. Your thoughts are TOTALLY valid and appreciated.
To answer “Are we prepared enough”: (this is not meant to be preachy, just honest thinking out loud) The most important place of preparation, I believe, is between my ears and in my heart. If we are not anchored we will be tossed, or even dashed against things that will break us. To me, one need not look past their arm to know God is real. When I objectively look at the way a human body works, the sky, food growing on trees and out of the ground, air etc, a creator is easily seen. I’m anchored to Him and believe the Bible is the infallible Word of God. He has given us all a brain and wisdom to steward. In doing so, we can for example, look at what those with power in this world have to say in terms of their plans and then choose accordingly.
That said, we are living in biblical days, as I see it, and when you take into consideration all that the World Economic Forum/global elite/leaders around the world have said (see the link below), it seems inconceivable that they will allow this clear one-and-only-chance to change everything slip away – they will not, I repeat, they…..will…..not. Even the founder of the World Economic Forum said recently something like “we must prepare for an angrier world”. Since America stands in the way of the goal, I’m certain we have troubled days ahead and in order to bring about what they have declared the mission to be, those troubled days begin to ramp up in weeks.
So, what have I done with my family: A months worth of food to start and we add weekly. We have zero room for a garden, but bucket garden inside can help a bit. I studied and got a HAM Radio license specifically because of the coming troubles. Should cell communication go down, I want to have some form of alternative means. I have a CB Radio as well so we have options. I have the little walkie talkies too for short range communication with immediate family. We have firearms and over 2,000 rounds of ammunition (I pray I never need a single one). We have good neighbors and many are police. One is a SWAT member and we’ve already formed a skeleton of a plan.
One thing is important: “AGREEMENT” in the family. Everyone needs to be on the same page. We are NOT fearful of the days ahead….preparation goes a long way to stave such thinking off, I might add. We can only be “so” prepared and even at that, should the unthinkable happen and our country be invaded by, say a coalition of China/Russia and we lose – they could put us all in camps and then all bets are off. But, as with anything in life, we prepare as best we can and have confidence in that. There are always variables.
I would end with this: Prepare to the level whereby you feel a sense of peace that you’ve truly done all you can to the best of your ability – without fear. This is the place you need to sit in and remain. I would venture to say, if you do this, you will be ahead of about 80% of your fellow Americans. So many are still looking for “things to get back to normal”. Sadly, I do not believe those days return…if they do, good, but I simply do not see that and have made preparations accordingly.
Blessings to you and your family, and again, please know my heart is not to be preachy – I just though you both have great points/comments and wanted to respond to the invitation to present my thoughts.
Grace to you both.
The election and its immediate aftermath seems like a “cultural capital” issue more than anything. If you live in an area where the trucks might stop delivering food because of civil unrest you have very different concerns from places with more responsible leadership.
I can see four possible outcomes to the election (consisting of “big win”/”narrow win” for either candidate and I think only the big Biden win scenario won’t lead to civil unrest. Maybe these ultra violent right wing Trump supporters I keep hearing about will burst onto the scene, but I dunno.
This scenario of Trump refusing to leave, while possible doesn’t seem to me like something that will lead to violence or a prolonged standoff for the simple reason that Trump haters and Trump lovers already agree that most existing government/military personnel hate his guts. He will simply be escorted out and he seems like the kind of guy who would laugh and say that he fixed all of America’s problems and being the greatest president ever had nothing left to do anyway.
On the subject of breakdown, maybe the Soviet breakup is worth studying more closely? My wife lived in one of the republics and was pretty stoked to see it all falling apart because of her youth and not having much to lose. A lot of Americans feel the same way I think.
Ive noticed that it sounded like the power stayed on and the police were kind of there too most of the time for the simple reason that not knowing what else to do, everyone just kept on working the jobs that kept civilization sort of going.
Which brings me at last to my point: I don’t know whats in your head but consider that we are already living under a very different system than the one you grew up in. The future you are worried about is already present for the most part and your problem is figuring out what will work in this post-capitalist, post American world that you will live in for the rest of your days.
The ex-soviets who understood that the old system wasn’t returning (mostly younger folk) did very well as a group and the others just stayed mentally in the collapse place fighting attempts to renovate their Stalinist era apartment blocks with better windows.
I like PP because its all about surviving in the new world even if it often feels like we are trying to retroactively fight its birth.
Maybe get yourself a shoulder mounted missile launcher, Abrams tank, and one of these as a decoy.
IMHO it is too late to make a major move to a new place. My plan is to stock up on extra supplies and mentally practice various scenarios here at home base. I see people panicking and moving about frantically as the worst possible plan. If everyone stays calm and secluded it will be more difficult for whatever disruptive force to take hold. I would cash out of Bitcoin and the stock market or at least lighten up. I think digital wealth might be in jeopardy.
This is a long shot but I once saw a link in in the zero hedge comment section to a story about this Russian guy (at least I think he was) who lived in Sarajevo during the siege.
I bring this up because it was the most extreme, full out example of what life was like in all these doomsday scenarios we keep reading about on blogs. They had a gun registry and the police went around demanding that everyone turn in the weapons they had serial numbers for and when that was done the police announced the city was too unsafe and left the people they had just disarmed to fend for themselves.
So this guy did two years in a boarded up suburban house without utilities, police, medicines or any of the trappings of civilization. His story was about how you actually survive something like that. Spoiler alert: Even if you had unlimited ammo, you would eventually fall asleep and “get got”. Small flasks of alcohol could get you anything you needed.
Ive tried to find it, but it wasnt even an article. It was linked in the comment section. I feel I should spend all day looking for it now.
Anyway, while it can be a bad idea to read doomer porn and get yourself all worked up, depending on your personality and state of mind, maybe its helpful to go right to the other extreme so you come away at least feeling like you know what could happen.
Ill keep looking but maybe someone else here knows what Im talking about.
Sounds like Selco. I don’t see the situation here getting that extreme. I’m thinking more like USSR in 1990s (Read Dimitri Orlov) or Argentina in early 2000s (Read Ferfal).
Here is Selco’s blog:
