uncensorable blockchain for video
I’ve been raptly listening to each of the virus update vids — they’ve replaced the BBC for my morning news (and that is saying something!)
Chris keeps mentioning his concern about YouTube and censorship. This is also concern for me and many of the people in my community, some of whom are developing uncensorable distributed systems to replace centralized YouTube called LBRY (“library”).
There’s a simple tool that lets YouTube channel creators publish directly to this platform. I think it makes a lot of sense for the Peak Prosperity channel to show up there as well.
The platform: https://lbry.tv
The tool: https://lbry.com/faq/youtube
Hope this helps!
This will work for PP website
Interesting… never heard of Bittube. I’ve heard a bit about DTube but haven’t researched the tech much.
I’m a software engineer, and it’s important to me that my energies go into tech that I botth understand well and believe is well-designed. Which is why I stupidly didn’t buy Bitcoin back in 2008, I was too busy (correctly, IMO) pointing out that it wouldn’t scale to millions of people using it, and would be used for surveillance. If I was a little less smart I’d be rich 😉
Anyway, DTube is based on Steem, which is concerning to me. In part for technical reasons, in part because it’s yet another Dan Larimer blockchain. From a creator’s standpoint DTube is problematic because it doesn’t (AFICT) incentivize hosting the content, which makes it less useful for smaller creators (obviously not a problem for PP, though)
Really, though, since publishing on these decentralized platforms ranges from is extremely cheap to outright free, IMO it makes a lot of sense for the PP team to publish there. On all of them, really!
I also hadn’t heard of unstoppabledomains. It looks really interesting, but does raise a few flags in my mind.
On the plus side, it reminds me of namecoin — which is a project I wish would get more traction. In fact, they might be using namecoin under the covers, I can’t really tell. I had a quick scan of the website and (as is all too common) it was devoid of any real technical info.
There’s a link to their github, which I looked at a bit more closely. It’s concerning that there are only 3 contributors. I tried reading up on their core tech, “ZNS” (“a suite of smart contracts to make a naming system like DNS on the blockchain”)
This is really interesting. I recently tried creating my YouTube channel.
