The Most IMPORTANT Video You’ll Ever See

This was one of the very first lectures I watched that lead me on a path to Chris Matenson and the Crash Course. There are many here who are fully aware of Bartletts work, particularly because he has been such an influence upon Chris. Yet, I’ve realised there are many new names and faces here who may not be aware.

My admiration is equal and, I hope you find him a useful addition…

Hi Roger,

he makes for interesting reading too!

There are some useful links here from Wikipedia :-

Britinbe,

Yes. It left me with an ache to comprehend, and then to understand. ‘Why…’, is what I’m left with; so obvious, it is a wonder that more people don’t understand exponential growth and its hidden effects…

I do though, I have a scientific background and the concept isn’t new.  I’ve used exponential function to look at my own portfolio and how growth is going.

To hear all in such terms is humbling and exilerating all at the same time, Al certainly exposes the frailty of economics and shows that population is perhaps a bigger problem over oil.

Re: The Most IMPORTANT Video You’ll Ever See

Britinbe,

I know, I’ve read many of your thoughtful comments recently. Can I tell you, the first time I saw this, I called friends and family up far and wide and said, "hey, this is incredible, you just have to watch this!!" Anyway, over the next few days I met up with everyone and they were just getting on with their daily life as though nothing had happened. I was so shocked. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and hearing. I thought I’d be having these huge discussions on what the impact of all these unforeseen issues were and they were busy sitting around drinking coffee and having idle chit-chat as though they were drugged or something; or I was.

I worry, it’s been my born nature. Your children, your wife and your way of life; what you risk and what you value. I was just reading your thread ‘Paradox’ and it brought tears to my eyes of what the future is going to be for both of us, there is such similarity. Cherish precious moments…

Hi Paul,

I’m a pretty new subscriber and have been doing my best to catch up with all the great information.  Thanks for your contributions. I can certainly identify with your comments above: " …over the next few days I met up with everyone and they were just
getting on with their daily life as though nothing had happened."

For most people, I just think…ok, then…off you go. But I’ve got grandchildren…and their parents need to be paying attention, dammit!  Anyway…guess I’ll keep keepin’ on.

Love the Eliot quotation.  One of my favorites of his: "Except for the still point, the still point,/There would be no dance, and there is only the dance."

Hi Lori,

our childern are so important to us aren’t they? There is just no answer to that, they just are. Mine are very young and I have to fully face the future with all this knowledge of what is to come and hope I can teach them the best of what I can. It’s the families my partner and I have that cannot see any threat because what has lain behind them has been very comfortable for many many years. I perserveir every day and won’t give up on them because It just can’t be done. Time will tell, hey? Humour sometimes works – have you seen this :-

Re: The Most IMPORTANT Video You’ll Ever See

Good Job posting these videos; they really get to the larger underlying cause of all problems.  More and more, I often see a good deal of political debate on these forums, but suprisingly little discussion about population (minus a thread or two).  Yet, clearly, humans are behaving like yeast, exposed to too much sugar that is about to be in short supply.  The root cause of our problems seem to be biological, rather than purely political.

Just by examining human population, one has to wonder if any number of political systems (whether written by Marx or Mises or Rand or Rawles or whomever) could have worked wonderfully, if only population had not become a problem.  I think it was Dan Adams (Hitchhiker’s Guide) who said that ‘People are the problem.’  It doesnt matter what system you come up with, whether designed purely out of self interest, or to promote good, humans will find a way to ruin it.
