    Satire….healthy for individuals…good for society

Taking Satire away is another form of censorship. When the absurdity in daily life is no longer absurd we are in trouble. Keep smiling….keep laughing…. and watch your back. The world is different.

You know your society has a serious stick …

up it’s collective butt when fact checking and official denial of humor pieces becomes standard practice.

COVID Craziness supplies laughter every evening

Every evening, at dinner, I give my wife a summarization of the day’s news (and she reciprocates with what she’s learned). I cover serious issues demanding our attention and some action in response but I particularly emphasize the growing number of absurdities in almost all every of modern life. My wife has a good sense of humor so she will sometimes come up with her own version of satirizing a news absurdity or a local behavioral absurdity. Last night, she had me laughing so hard I could hardly breathe. The previous night, I did the same with her. The growing craziness of these times provides an amazing amount of fodder for comedians who are bold enough to tell the truth. Unfortunately, since it is becoming increasingly politically incorrect to joke about anything, comedians are no longer bold in these matters and we have to make up our own humor. Despite the times, I think we are laughing more now than at any previous time in our life. Who would guess that a surprising benefit of the COVID Craziness would be healthy, immune boosting laughter?

Example: This headline from Spain put an image in my mind of masked swimmers essentially self waterboarding with their masks on in the water. Maybe I’m sick in the head, but I found an image of this riotously funny.

Spain says masks now mandatory at pools, beaches and during exercise as virus cases rise again

And take a look at that huge surge that happened in Spain just before that article’s March 31 publication date:

Yes, it’s that tiny little bump at the leading edge of the latest little wave of cases.

And that huge surge in deaths:

Spain cases by day w/ 7 day moving average

Wait, there was no surge in deaths.  That last little surge was back in mid-March.  It coincided with a minimum and perhaps was an issue of delayed reporting of some deaths in the bigger winter wave.

Good move Spain!  I would gladly jog with a mask on to make those public health officials look a little less foolish.

Oops – maybe that article was satire and I just fell victim to the snopes fact check a joke mentality 😉

Monty Python’s Argument Clinic today more relevant than ever

Much of Monty Python’s work hasn’t aged well (perhaps I’m not properly medicated), but the Argument Clinic is still the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.

Reminds me of some exchanges I’ve seen on this and other forums lately.

To this day, when my gal & I have disagreements, I’ll sometimes break the ice by saying: “I’m sorry, but if you want me to argue with you, you’re going to have to pay”

People are Losing their Jobs !

The comics are dropping, left and right,
and they all seem to quit, without much of a fight.
It’s really not so much to do with their views,
but they just can’t compete with the Front Page News.
