Occupy Wall Street – a first hand assessment
It was in the CM forums (maybe this one, maybe not) an explanation of the ‘authoritarian personality’ was given. Not what you think if you haven’t been educated, but it refers to those who blindly accept and believe in who they consider the authority figures in their lives.

Just one of the ways OWS is learning how to win.
New York: In the wake of the confiscation of gasoline generators by the NYPD, the people of Occupy Wall Street have turned to a new source of power.
Within 48 hours of losing their electricity, members of the Sustainability Working Group drove to Occupy Boston to collaborate on the design of bicycle-powered generators.
The bikes charge batteries that can run for 100 hours, powering the lighting, cell phones, and laptops of protestors.
,,,this first effort by an Occupation at flexing its muscles seems to have gone well. One indicator: the Financial Times took note of the strike, placing the story on the front page of its Web edition.
As many as 5,000 protesters gathered in Oakland, California, for what organisers called the first general strike in the US since demonstrators shut down business and government operations in the same city in 1946.
Picketers on Wednesday blocked and pounded on the doors of bank branches and defaced ATMs and brought operations to a halt at the Port of Oakland, the fifth-busiest port in the US, in a demonstration aimed to expand on the broader Occupy Wall Street movement.
Reader Richard Kline focused on this section:
Even the Oakland police officers’ union expressed sympathy for the protesters, issuing a public statement on Tuesday saying it was “confused” by the mayor’s requirement that they provide staffing for the strike while other city employees were given permission to take the day off to participate.
“We, too, are the 99 per cent fighting for better working conditions, fair treatment and the ability to provide a living for our children and families,” the letter said, referring to the “we are the 99 per cent” slogan that has been a rallying cry for protesters…
[Referring to the confrontation last week that led to the critical injury of Iraq war veteran Scott Olsen]
This has angered police, who say they were simply following orders and feel they have been made “scapegoats” for the events.
His comment via e-mail:
The Oakland Police have expressed sympathy _for the strike_ via their union, and are greatly disgusted with their civilian leadership.
OAKLAND, Calif. — Police in riot gear clashed with protesters in Oakland in the early morning hours on Thursday, firing tear gas to disperse demonstrators lingering in the streets after a day of mostly peaceful rallies against economic inequality and police brutality.
The clash and standoff came only hours after protesters shut down the Port of Oakland late Wednesday.
The confrontation, which erupted after midnight, appeared aimed at preventing the protesters from expanding their foothold in the streets around a public plaza that has become a hub for demonstrations in the northern California city.
More than 200 officers, some of them ferried in aboard buses, lined up shoulder to shoulder and donned gas masks, then declared the crowd to be an unlawful assembly and fired volleys of tear gas as protesters turned and ran.
At about the same time many of the street lights in the area suddenly went dark, but it was not clear whether they were turned off or were knocked out by a power disruption.

The Constitution Working Group of Occupy Wall Street (OWS) has produced the following Statement of Beliefs as a platform for recommended future actions to solve the Nation’s problems, including BAILOUTS, CORPORATE PERSONHOOD, WAR, UNSOUND MONEY AND DEBT.
The Constitution Working Group asks that these Beliefs now be considered by ALL People in and out of the Occupy movement. Ponder these and make known your approval:
· All People have Natural Rights — Simply Because They Are Alive;
· We the People have Instituted Government to Secure our Rights;
· According to our Governing Documents, Sovereignty rests with the People –
Here in America, the People have the Ultimate Power;
· The Constitution & Declaration of Independence are inextricably intertwined;
· Every Principle, Prohibition, Restriction and Mandate of our Governing Documents represents a Guaranteed, Individual Right;
· The People are the Source of All Political Power – no one gets into office unless WE put them there;
· All Elected Officials are limited by our written Constitutions – If Not Authorized in writing, such acts are UNLAWFUL;
· The Constitution is not a Menu;
· The Constitution cannot Defend Itself;
· Individuals and Small Groups cannot prevail in attempts to hold government accountable to their
State and Federal Constitutions;
· A Critical Mass is needed, i.e., 3-5% of population;
· Very few in and out of public office can recognize when government is obeying or violating
· The way our system of governance is working is in sharp contrast to the way it is designed to work;
· We don’t change the Constitution by ignoring it; there are provisions within it to make changes;
· All that is happening is our fault; the People have allowed it to happen;
· The People have always had the ultimate power in America and have always been the final arbiters of constitutionality;
· Most of what is causing our National distress NOW can be traced back to violations of the Constitution.
This Statement of Beliefs is now posted on http://www.OccupyTheConstitution.org.
Go there. Study It. Signify your approval.
The government needs to hear from millions of us united in purpose and spirit.
WE ARE THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA AND WE ARE FREE
Karl Denninger, post and discussion: OWS Constitution Working Group: Look Out Tea Party!
Given the outcry over the unprovoked injury of Marine veteran Scott Olsen – which has caused veterans from all over the country to come out to support the protesters – Sabehgi’s treatment by the police could generate even more support for the “Occupy” protests .
A former U.S. Army Ranger and Occupy Oakland protester was in intensive care on Friday after a veterans group said he was beaten by police during clashes with demonstrators this week.
The Guardian reports:
Kayvan Sabehgi, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, is in intensive care with a lacerated spleen. He says he was beaten by police close to the Occupy Oakland camp, but despite suffering agonising pain, did not reach hospital until 18 hours later.
Turn your sound up…… PRICELESS!
