    Mittleider Growing Method

Has anyone heard of the Mittlieder method of gardening?  It’s been referred to as "poor man’s hydroponics" in which food is grown vertically in raised beds of sandy soil and treated with organic fertilizers derived from ground rocks and other sources.  It claims 3 fold increases in yield.

Using the method, a person can potentially grow 100 tons of tomatoes on an acre of land in one year.  Sold at 50 cents per pound, that could yield roughly $100,000 in net profit.

You can find more info here:  http://foodforeveryone.org/vegetable_gardening/20/what-is-the-mittleider-method

Since there had been some discussion on "grow-ops" as a good potential transitional measure, I was wondering if anyone is familiar with this method and if it lives up to its claims.

Kate, can you weigh in on this?

Luc
