List of shortages
I noticed some shortages and thought I’d start a thread on them.
To lead off, both I and friends in other states have noted a severe lack of plastic storage bins in our local Walmarts. It came to my attention when we were looking for a neater way to store pet food kibble. Most of the places online do not have them either. I theorize that the average man on the street is getting nervous about the economy and is hoarding things for later.
If so, in a way, they are doing the poor man’s version of investing in commodities which will only go up in price.
What shortages are you noticing?
Funny, a couple days ago I also went to Walmart to look for plastic storage bins, in my case, for storing charcoal. I noticed the same thing-practically no inventory. In fact, I saw a great deal of empty shelving throughout the store. Maybe it’s only in my particular area but it sure was eerie.
Smas club online has gamma vaults for sale that store 60lbs of kibble. They work great for rice and beans as well and are reasonably priced.
I live in rural Oregon. I don’t go into town, much, shop at Safeway and local farm store. No Walmart, near here. At Safeway, I haven’t been able to get ammonia for cleaning, for a while. I finally ordered from Amazon. Also, SPAM has been gone for a while.
My understanding is, to quell problems, urban stores will be supplied and rural folks have to find what they can.
Tried to buy some 18″ CMP culvert(Corragated Metal Pipe) last week. Was told there was a shortage of the metal used to make them. Might have some in stock in 1 to 2 months.
Father-in-law owns a glass shop. Said he can’t get windows. He was told maybe October. He had pretty good inventory, but other shops were buying his windows for their jobs. Also said a sheet of tempered glass has doubled.
Local parts house said they are having a hard time finding hydraulic fittings to keep their inventory up. Also no nitrile gloves.
Edit: this is in California
Lumber…..PVC pipe and fittings…..Structural metal….
Generally all store isles are about 65% stocked.
I was at the store today and noticed the section with feminine hygiene products was looking a bit skimpy. On the other hand, there was tons of hand sanitizer…
Lots of misc things, this week a decent Mop bucket. Seriously. I only tried 2 stores, then had to order online. Was looking for a standard heavy duty rubbermaid or equivalent.
Water tanks and refrigerators are still back ordered for months out here in California at least. PVC pipe not back ordered for months, but in short supply
You cant get canning lids or ammo of course, but that about goes without saying these days
Fence posts, finished lumber, building materials.
I read a while ago, plastic buckets, chlorine for pools, aluminum products and cans and olive oil were going to be expensive or hard to find. I use a lot of olive oil.
