Is there really a chance that this is being overblown?
What happened to the antibody “storm”?
What happened to the story that this virus stays dormant in your nerve system even after full recovery?
Are these 2 still correct or are these proven wrong by now?
For me this is very disturbing, it would suggest the possibility of a next outbreak (fall?) with much severe outcome…
It is certainly not being overblown in Italy:
I have lived in the Washington DC suburbs all my life. I tell people pay no attention to what politicians say, watch what they do. The same can be said for governments. The first DC resident to check himself in with COVID19 over the weekend. Six Republican congressmen are now in self quarantine because they had contact with him. Two had close contact with President Trump. Let see what Trump does in the next few days…
Someone wrote this on Chris’ new video:
“Lets see, the reason that the stock market is crashing is because of people like yourself blowing this virus out of proportion. The flue kills thousands, this virus, yeah not so much. The Media is pushing hysteria and so are you. I have watched every one of your videos and after a few weeks of myself being frightened to death realized, I would be far worse off getting the flue then this virus. So please do the country a favor and stop! Just stop telling everyone that this is so much worse then any other virus we have experienced. I believe after this 2 month period that you just want to get attention, maybe your channel wasn’t doing so well and this is a way of getting viewers? Who knows but it has to stop, you and several others are destroying this country from within!!!”
If you were the average person, what would you pay attention to — in terms of the news and the numbers?
One signal to watch out for is if the first case in an area is a death or a severe case, because that suggests you had a lot of community transmission already. As a back of the envelope calculation, suppose the fatality rate for cases is about 1 percent, which is plausible. If you’ve got a death, then that person probably became ill about three weeks ago. That means you probably had about 100 cases three weeks ago, in reality. In that subsequent three weeks, that number could well have doubled, then doubled, then doubled again. So you’re currently looking at 500 cases, maybe a thousand cases.
Three weeks ago, Italy had less than 20 cases, now over 10,000. San Francisco had a death last week of a 90-year-old man, which indicates the city now has hundreds of cases.
“I would be far worse off getting the flue then this virus. So please do the country a favor and stop! Just stop telling everyone that this is so much worse then any other virus we have experienced. I believe after this 2 month period that you just want to get attention,……”
This is a belief. You notice the data is not disputed and the say “I believe” and “you just want to get attention”
Putting together a podcast EVERY day takes a lot of preparation and effort. The graphs and pages used in Chris’s presentation don’t just make themselves, they take time. If you have never created a presentation it may be hard to appreciate the work that goes into each days update. Chris is an introvert and I suspect that he would prefer to spend his time doing other things than updates 6 days a week.
It is difficult to quantitatively judge something you can’t see for yourself. If we could drive over to a morgue and look through glass windows at body bags we could then go yep, we have a problem. But mostly we see numbers and news videos and the message is “it’s coming and get ready” or “don’t worry, be happy”plus we know officials are incompetent and lie to us. So who do we trust? What do we believe.
I choose to believe Chris. Why? Because he does NOT say “believe me”, he says here are my sources read them for yourself. He does say here is what I see and what I think about what I see. He says he reserves the right to change his mind and his message based on new data and information he might acquire. Mainstream Media says “we are right and here is what you should think”. That message makes some peoples life easier. They don’t have to think for themselves.
What about you? Who do you trust? Are you constantly questioning or would you feel more secure having someone tell you what to think?
“I have watched every one of your videos and after a few weeks of myself being frightened to death realized, I would be far worse off getting the flue then this virus.”
This is a statement of fear not fact. Clinging to the “ it’s no worse than the flu” message provides comfort. Yeah, that sounds good, what a relief I no longer have to think about something I can’t control. I was afraid that must have been Chris’s fault! We understand this thought process and so does Chris. It is a high anxiety time for all of us.
The virus will seem to be overblown for those who don’t get it and aren’t affected by it. For those that do and die from it – devastating. Families of the affected – devastating!
The question is – as a society will we choose compassion and care and empathy. Or, will the choice be greed, indifference and apathy. The landscape on the other-side of this Pandemic won’t be because of fear it will be because of the choices we make. And the choices the government makes, take care of people or Corporations and the rich. So far the government is not putting peoples best interest first.
