As a point of clarification I was using a subset of the PHE VoC data from earlier research which is missing some categories not pertinent to that enquiry.Dataset

Actual hospitalization rates across all categories are lower than I reported at 1.9% for the Delta variant and CFR is slightly lower which PHE rounds down to 0.3%.  A better comparison of hospitalization rates with the Merck study would be to look at the PHE figures for Cases where presentation to A&E resulted in overnight  inpatient admissions (exclusion) which is patients admitted who had a positive PCR result prior to being admitted.  This brings the hospitalization rate down to 1.1% as shown in table 4 of the document.

Is Molnupiravi the game changer being touted?

I would answer “No” but not for reasons related to the drug itself.

“The Game” is Mass Psychosis and this cannot be stopped by a pill.

If Covid being a thing that kills 0.2% of people is enough to start and sustain Mass Psychosis, then a pill that reduces this number t0 0.05% will still leave the papers full of stories about dead grannies, dead athletes and one toddler dying per year.

So, no change in this “game” even if the drug turns out to be as good as the dreaded dewormer.
