Is Budesonide the new silver Bullet to cure Covid?

Is this breaking news or just another Dr. looking  for notoriety?

Watched the video. He made some claims about Taiwan, Singapore and Japan that I have not been able to verify.

I hope it works but he was a little too evangelical and did not really present data.

Need more info from other sources

I think it should be reiterated that YouTube videos typically are not reliable a source for medical information unless they cite actual scientific studies we can look at to check the veracity of their claims (like Chris does on his videos).

What I see here are claims without data…  dubious.

It’s just another corticosteroid — same story as with dexamethasone. You can take almost any corticosteroid, use it on some patients, then go on TV to announce how successful this “new” drug is, even though it does nothing to counter the virus itself, and pharmacologically-clueless people will buy it.

Inhaled may be an improvement. Easy to see what asthmatics are on it and their infection rate.

    i’m willing to entertain it

And he was right about the trials ongoing, there are 8 of them that show up.

https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?cond=covid-19&term=Budesonide&cntry=&state=&city=&dist=

Not all the trials weren’t all about treatment, but some were.

Oxford study (Dec 2020): https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04416399

Didn’t see one by NIH.  Might have just missed it.

His statements about the number of cases are pretty close to what J-H reports as of today. Not sure when his interview was aired, so there may have been a time lag.

Japan 982
South Korea 287
Iceland 10
Taiwan 7

What seems a bit “off” is that he said several times, “this is what they’re doing in Taiwan”, etc. It would seem that if that was true – that they’re diagnosing people early and administering Budesonide with close to 100% cure rate, medical researchers would have heard about it and started testing it. I’ll hold my excitement a while longer.

I think that people need to be very careful – as this is not a disease where you treat the disease ( as of yet ) because there is no treatment for coronavirus.  However , its where you treat the patient.

Each individual will have unique health challenges , especially since covid seems to attack so many system – With H1N1, it was simply cytokine storm that was killing people.  You basically had one thing to treat.  Covid is differnt. Cytokine storm is one aspect. Pneumonia, cardiovascular coagulopathy, renal failure, neuro impairment and inflammation, metabolic toxicity etc all wreak havoc on the body.

What may help one person may not another.  But any steroid can be both immuno enhancing and immuno suppressing.  The difference is subtle and misunderstood.  Basically early on – in limited increase, in most instances steroids have helped with unsual and rare viruses.  its nothing new to use steroids on individuals who have not responded on their own to recover from viruses which there are no treatments.  Most of the time initial dosing is beneficial in almost all cases,  but if desirable response is not achieve almost immediately, things can go south quickly.   In fact i recall a testimony of a guy with covid , once he got the roids, he was like yeah,, i ccan beat this.. it was the turning corner for him     There is nothing here new – there is plenty of empirical experience with steroids,,  But the real science to explain how and why and when and how much – is very unknown.  and will likely remain that way, as steroids were touted as the new silver bullet cure all in the late 40s and 50s..
