I know some Americans here will say “this is why we need to preserve our Second Amendment” but I wonder how greater access to firearms would prevent this from happening in the US?

IMO there are lots of Americans that won’t be taken alive.  I’ve seen the “just want to be left alone” quote in a wide variety of places on the internet.

Randy Weaver and the Branch Davidians just wanted to be left alone too

Randy Weaver and the Branch Davidians just wanted to be left alone too.  The US government didn’t seem to have a problem ignoring their wishes.

Yes but it is way easier to do when you have all the guns. You don’t have to plan anything, you just show up and take what you want. And force people to go where you want.

Yep, but that was one guy off in the corner.

Even a year ago there were financial YTers that discussed economic type stuff, medical YTers that discussed Covid type stuff and prepper YTers that talked about food in buckets.  Occasionally on one of the prepper type channels I’d see the tree of Liberty quote in the comments.

The finance guys are now talking about food in buckets and the left alone quote is popping up in more places.

Two years ago, I would have discounted a thread like this as being “out there.”

But it is not “out there.” It is here.

Your second amendment didn’t stop the assault on the branch dravidians, but increased the costs (in all ways) dramatically. The logistics of doing the same at scale is likely to give nascent hitlers pause. If the aboriginals who were corralled from their villages had been armed, even without shots fired, I would bet they would have been left alone.

This should be raising eyebrows!

But this is the Australian response I like:

But the scenario here would mean thousands of Branch Dividian style stand offs simultaneously (many to include “POCs”) and a decreased ability and desire to control the narrative in the media.

Normies basically believed the Davidians were a dangerous terror cell and the raid saved us all. The government generally wasn’t despised (at the time) for carrying out the violence. The Davidians were also white, working class, religious fundamentalists i.e. zero unprotected status in the USA.

I think we Americans *can* sound LARPy when we comment in replies to every “Australia is off the rails” post about “our Second Amendment”…I mean, we’re already this far gone, and thus far nobody has been rising up. I do think Australia style madness could play out in some heavily blue areas of the US. But in deep red America, yes, you would see armed citizenry pushing back on forced internment.
