    Pappy, that’s why I love this tribe…

You raise a great point I hadn’t thought about. I was taking flight lessons for a while, had to put it down to do other things but I know the expense. To get single engine certified, $30k is not unreasonable, then to get multi-engine, plan on another 20k, then to get IFR another whatever, and then commercial rated likely puts those pilots up at 100k. I imagine most would rather work at home depot and rent a plane for 300/hr than let that license go to waste so it wouldn’t be too far fetched to say these airlines have a deeper bench than they let on. HOWEVER to your point, at some point the wives get tired of carrying the burden of the mortgage and eventually tell them to “keep it as a summer hobby” and get a real job.

But if the airlines are really as desperate as this makes it sound, I imagine they can raise that incentive or face an organic revenue decline as a result. I still suspect we’re not hearing the true industry impacts of vaccine side effects though.

DKN, the bench isn’t really that deep.

There have been multiple times I was flying that we got delayed because there wasn’t a pilot or first officer available.

We would have to wait for someone to deadhead it into a small regional field to get us off the ground.

The entire airline industry operates like a pizza delivery counter at Dominoes. I’m being a bit overly dramatic, but it’s how I observed living every Monday for 8 years jumping into O’Hare from Madison.

And while we’re at it, I’d like to state that I’ll never go back to that life. Not even for $250k+ a year. It is a complete waste of resources and my finite time away from my family. The fact that folks travel constantly and use shit tons on fuel to perform some of the BS work that I and many others I’ve met makes no sense economically, environmentally or otherwise.

It is a travesty that 1000 pounds of jet fuel could be consumed just for a couple business meetings and dinner with a client, all to make the $$$ keep flowing.

The ridiculous nature of the jet set lifestyle shows how out of balance with nature (both human and Mother) the modern world has become. It’s no wonder we’re going off a cliff in so many respects.

We first world humans are trying to live as many lifetimes as possible within our 70 or so years as cheap oil can provide. It fits no level of math I can put on paper.

    Houston, we have a problem

I recintly got my first vaccnation at the clinic in town. I was tarified but the free donuts were good. Today, I lernt that the clinic gave free lottry tickets, so I went back for anuther shot. The receptshinist said that I had to wate. Why I asked. She told me that it wouldnt be safe to have 2 shots so close together. If they are prefectly safe then why cant I have them evry day? So Huston, there must be a parblum.

Well said Pappy

It is a travesty that 1000 pounds of jet fuel could be consumed just for a couple business meetings and dinner with a client, all to make the $$$ keep flowing.
