Getting the word out.
This is a reply to the promotion of the crash course forum. I was asked, by Lucas, to move the discussion here. I’m meeting at 8:20 MST Friday with a member of the planning committee for Westminster, CO, USA. My objective is to find my way into the city council with the crash course information and ultimately, to the public in general. My first meeting is scheduled for just 15 minutes via phone where we both have access to the web. I have ordered 100 DVDs, but have not received delivery yet.
Chris, I’ll do as you suggest and have him start with Chapter 19 rather than my plan with the first 5 chapters.
I’ll post here with my results. … Don
I just re-listened to chapter 19. I’m a bit concerned that it may be overwhelming for someone who has never been introduced to these topics. Still, I trust your judgement, Chris, and Ch 19 will be used Friday morning. Thanks for responding to my post with your thoughts. … Don

Don,
This is really fantastic. I am very impressed that you were able to organize this.
Though Chris has a much better sense for this than most, I tend to agree that Chapter 19 may be a little overwhealming. I was absolutely HOOKED by the time I got through Chapter 5 and there was nothing that could prevent me from finishing the course at that point. Had I watched 19 first, I’m not so sure I woudl have "gotten" it right away.
That’s just my initial thoughts and they are just opinions.
I say do what you think will be most effective, Don.
Luc
Don,
I tend to agree with Luc. Having made it about halfway-through the course again to write up the youtube descriptions, I must admit that it’s Chapters 4 and 5 that really sucked me in. 19 is really important though – i am a bit worried about it being overwhelming though. I don’t know – perhaps show 19 to some friends before then – although that’s probably not practical, seeing as there’s only a few hours left. I can understand how chapters 1 and 2 may seem like a drag, even three. You just don’t want him coming away from this labeling you as a nut. I go back and forth as to whether or not I think chapter 19 can stand alone. It’s your call – I don’t think this is really helping too much, sorry =/
Gentlemen,
I’m sad to report that I call stood up this morning. I called him exactly at 8:20 AM as agreed and then again at 8:30. I’ll write to him tonight and see if he is willing to reschedule.
Darn … Don
Bummer – hopefully he’ll be available to reschedule. On the bright side, this could give you more time to preparte which videos would be best to share. Hopefully it all works out!
good news: the guy called to appologize for missing my call and wants to reschedule. I’ll be trying for lunchtime Monday.
I just submitted this as a story idea to NPR:
subject: Economy, Energy & Environment
How these are all interrelated and how our future will be much different than our past. See http://www.PeakProsperity.com please. This would be great for This American Life or Morning Edition.
… Don
I just spoke with a representative with Westminister City Planning. He agreed to review the 1st 5 chapters of the crash course at my request. As it turns out he reviewed the 1st 6 chapters and has committed to reviewing the whole crash course (as was my hope). He pointed out to me that our city has only 10% of the land not yet developed and that he is currently working on how to best use that land … an indication to me that he really gets what the crash course is driving at. I volunteered to be at his service and informed him that I have access to 100 DVDs coming soon. We discussed the idea of what to do next with this information and touched on the idea of bringing it before the city council. This is all I hoped for.
Now, I wait to see if he gets back to me or if he lets this slide of his pile of demands. I’ll keep you guys posted. Next, I leave to pick up my son at school and check my POB for the DVDs.
Smiling … Don

Well done Don!
Glad you got him to commit to 1-5 and that he went to 6. I guess that’s a better, more gentle approach than clobbering him with 19.
We’re anxiously awaiting your future updates.
Best,
Chris
