General Public Discussion Forums – Etiquette?
Any chance we can get some rules/guidelines regarding etiquette on the general forums? I’ve noticed some particularly fiery, offensive, borderline inappropriate comments recently. I feel like we should have a stickied thread, much like in our forums here, that asks people to be polite, etc… if this continues to be a problem. Personally, i feel it would be best if we could private message other users. That way particularly fiesty debates could be done in private, and administrators could more easily ask specific users to be more respectful, if necessary (i’m not suggesting that be a function of the Volunteer Brigade, although it definitely could be). I don’t like censorship or policing at all, and the forums have done very well so far. However, i am concerned that a few particular individuals could make the chris martenson experience distasteful for the rest.
Just a few more thoughts =]
I’ll run this by Chris and Erik. I think they are great suggestions and it’s always good to set a general tone of respectfulness with online discussion forums.
I’ll keep you posted.
We wrote up posting guidelines and rules a while back but did not quite finish them and get them posted. That will be done by the end of the day.
Now I have the sudden urgency to get them posted…as a sticky…
Thanks for your concern, I share it.
For those in need of a pick-me-up, I’ve digitized a full hour of the Glenn Beck show on CNN where he interviews Ray Kurzweil, a brilliant inventor who has solid information on the exponential advance of solar technology and what it will mean in the next five years.
To maintain video quality I did not optimize them for streaming, so the files are fairly large — best course of action is to download them first (using the right mouse button over the link), then play locally.
Thanks for the info. This post actually belongs as a new thread in the General Discussions folder. Please move it.
It will probably get more hits that way, too.
