Some very relevant political statements from 80’s band ‘Tears for Fears’…

It’s obvious at least some do…

Everybody Wants To Rule The World ("Turn your back on mother nature")

Check out some of the symbolism in ‘Sowing the Seeds of Love’….  NWO?!!….

Sowing The Seeds Of Love ("We’re fools to the rules of a goverment plan")

An anti-domestic violence song featuring the stunning vocals of Oleta Adams…

Woman In Chains – ("So free her") Embedding is disabled so just click on player to go to YouTube

Gary Jules haunting cover version of Roland Orzabals ‘Mad World’…

Mad World – Gary Jules version ("Hello teacher tell me what’s my lesson")

And a beautiful guitar instrumental version played by Ulli Boegershausen…

I’m not normally much of a God person, and Ani Difranco isn’t usually known for soothing and uplifting music, but this is perhaps the best version of Amazing Grace I’ve ever heard

And, even though it’s a bit sad, I absolutely love Damien Rice "Delicate"

Ahhh…..Thanks so much for posting that wonderful rendition of Somewhere over the Rainbow, Paul. What an incredible perfomance of one of my favorite songs.

Just felt the stress of the day vanish and peace enter.

I also am a musician and it is the way I get through the stresses of life.

Here is me singing another one of my all time favorites. Hope the forum enjoys it:

Also, my girlfriend is reading in here and she informs me that Eva Cassidy has died. what a loss as one my kids (my girlfriend’s daughter) used to dance in competition to her songs.

Here is Eva in a great live performance. (sorry, I don’t know how to embed video)

Thanks, PlicketyCat, for putting that up. I’d be awfully hard pressed to pick a  best version of Amazing Grace, but here’s another one, as different as yours. It’s not even sung, it’s played on the bass guitar by Victor Wooten, one of the absolute greatest bass players on the planet – in fact I’m not even sure he’s from this planet! You’ll see what I mean.

Segueing from Victor Wooten, here’s a little something for everybody. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. It doesn’t get much more eclectic than this. Bluegrass (Dogs!), jazz, fusion, – you name it. – Stunning musicianship, of the highest caliber.

Greg –

Nice post.  I saw Bela Fleck last year and it was quite the show.  He’s to the banjo what Tommy Emmanuelle is to the guitar.

Here’s a pretty cool Wooten story.  He lives/lived in Hampton, VA and was in town for a jazz festival.  A few years ago I had stopped off at the local eclectic record/CD store after a Muay Thai session.  It was a rainy day and we were just standing around talking – three employees and maybe 4 customers.  The door opens and this guy comes in with a small amp and a case.  It was Vic Wooten.  For the next hour he treated us to an amazing display of prowess on the bass – slap, harmonics, slide, you name it.  Jaco Pastorius and Stanley Clarke had always been at the top of my list as far as fusion and innovative bassists (okay, Pastorius is firmly planted at the top IMO) but Wooten was simply amazing.  That would be a trio (Clarke, Wooten, Pastorius) for the ages.  No disrespect to Marcus Miller or Roscoe Beck or Les Claypool – but Wooten is on a plane all by himself with some of his techniques.  His work on "Shocktime" will take your breath away.

oh my – I’m stunned!

I was not expecting such an awesome voice and I don’t really like that genre of music but I confess I listened to the whole thing and got goosebumps – what a gorgeous voice.

Thanks for this…

Greg,

Bela Fleck is one of my favorite musicians of all time. But he is just 1/4 of my favorite group that ever existed. They are called New Grass Revival and they had an incomparable sound blending Kentucky Bluegrass and Jazz with Rock & Roll…..LOL

I have seen these guys live in concert 3 times and still follow them as individuals.

Here is Bela with New Grass Revival:
