discussions around the famiy dinner table

tis the season were we gather the scattered  for dinner and catching up .  A few concerning things came out of the dinner conversation .  First the sister-in -law and husband are forman on a ranch in NW Nebraska .  The size of this place is 7000 acres feeding approx 700  cow/calf pairs which  leaves everything pretty much up to God and not changing the environment . BUT the big change going on is planting the sand hills to corn . Ripping out trees and having to irrigate the crop full season .  The corn is then used to make ethenol …. using more water .

This is concering to me a Kansas dweller  who lives on the same auqifer .

Second interesting topic was that my nephew had steady work all winter to pour concrete for a hog confinement operation .  He said this place was so big that it was a constant flow ,  marketing 7000 hogs per year .    Keeping 10 semi  truck /trailors running  feed  to the place and hogs to market .  This all concerns me greatly that there are less and less producers and you know the Govt. and Bankers hands are in it all .

I probably told the story of the Govt. letter I got wanting to know about my hog operation  all because I took 2 little pigs to the market !   I wrote back and said I did not have an operation but two pigs to clean up garden produce .  But they insisted they had to know so that there was enough produced to feed the population .. eeh right .

So I guess all this just adds to my concern as to the situation we find ourselves in and the importance of taking control of our own food supply ourselves.

FM. Its like the cold war

FM. Its like the cold war all over again. Except its being waged between Monsanto and Mother Earth. Well we know who will win in the long run. Its just a matter of how much we humans will have to suffer in the short term. Thank goodnes I am finaly able to move my family to a farm in North Idaho to become self suficient. Do you know how hard it is to grow food in you backyard in las vegas?
