My Mates and I have been breaking our backs trying to find the best place in the country to move to that would be both best positioned and attributed for a post Oil world.  If http://collapsenet.com/ becomes a success it may be a huge benefit in this pursuit by showing were concentrations of like minded people are located.  Does anyone know if a thread exists that is dedicated to isolating pockets within the lower 48 that are best suited for the future?

Ironic… voice of the consumer.

Seems a good time to echo Mooselick (#42, p. 5):

“If you want to build a lifeboat with the locals…. You better not come to me with your own ideas of how things should be.   You better not condescend my way of life.    You better bring some useful skills or resources to me to earn your seat at the table of this community besides your own cultural vision or some other complexity of society.  You better not call attention to me.  You better not threaten my way of life in ANY way.  You better be humble and willing to workhard with an introverted, hard living bunch of people who just want to live their lives without interference.”

[/quote]

deggleton, I am bringing my own community with me and If we happen to settle next door to Mooselick I believe he would respect  what we have to offer.  Are we all not consumers?  I pull Money from this crooked system and use it better my position for the future with no shame.  Nacci.

You mean there is more than one of you?  Sorry, no pacifists to loot or enslave here.  Just a bunch of gun crazy rednecks…

Mooselick, Not sure if we are sharing a laugh or you are attempting to misrepresent my position.  For the record I have no intention of looting or enslaving anyone.  My entire mentality is to keep these painful indignities from being inflicted upon me and my people.  I feel that I am a moral man being presented with future ripe with wickedness.  One tool I use to prepare for this is to think as my future enemies would while protecting my morality and embracing my friends.

Will the absence of oil cripple food production, delivery and preservation? Are the Amish both positioned and attributed well to prosper in a post oil world?  Are they pacifists? Will the majority of Americans fail to prepare then become desperate?  Are there some in our world that are truly wicked? Does this make the Amish vulnerable?

DIAP and his mates posted a thread detailing their efforts at collective long term food storage: https://www.peakprosperity.com/forum/successful-food-storage-day-9-familes-4-tons-5-hours-lessons-learned-recommendations/27519  CM himself joins the thread to praise these men and women for their efforts.  CM gave up a lucrative corporate job to relocate, homestead and become more food independent.  Much respect, I too believe in long term food storage, homesteading and food independence.  My point is that these men are not being motivated by a vision of the future that is ripe with food, in fact I would maintain the exact opposite.

Peak oil is peak food and peak population.  Nacci.

Regarding the welcome mat, you are presumptuous and may be correct or overconfident.  However, the timing of both your departure and your arrival will be critical, and you control only the former.  Avoid the traffic jam!  Err on the side of early.  The sooner you go, the better your chances of bringing respected offers.

Regarding withdrawing and leaving for arrangements attractive to you, in that I hear it can’t be done here.  I’m sorry you are resigned to that view of yourself and those around you.  I may understand the lack of trust, but I don’t understand the trust you seem willing to give distant likeminded people.  How broad and deep and functional is likemindedness, anyway?

I am working up a full response to your question because I respect your evident intelligence.  More to come.

I want you to know that what looks like an objection to you is truly more generalized; I see paradigm troubles.  You simply ventured into a area about which I’m concerned and on which I’m focused.

I’ll take your tomatoes, zucchini and raspberries and make wine with the raspberries. Makes a delicate rose without much of the raspberry flavour. Now strawberry wine always has a strong strawberry nose/flavour and so works best as a sweet dessert wine.

That sounds great. Tell me. What kind of all-natural tonic could you concoct with say, a bushel of corn? Smile

About all it’s good for is to ferment and distill into ethanol. Currently that is used for motor fuel, while it is illegal now for natural persons to distill for human consumption. Not sure if a private individual can distill for motor fuel. Smile

Ethanol is fine. 🙂 Speaking of which, sitting in the hotel room on the beach now, killing time, I sure as hell could use a little ethanol. T- 2 hours 12 minutes before the big “I do”….
