I’m in an usual situation during these very odd times, and I’m not sure which way to go.
I own a small but profitable consulting firm, and I hate – HATE – it. The work has no value or meaning. If I could replace my income, I would have no problem (figuratively) pouring gas on this business, lighting a match and walking away. I wouldn’t hesitate. I wouldn’t look back.
But I haven’t found a way to replace that income, so I spend half my waking hours – on something that crushes my soul.
I have looked for ways of generating income from other sources, as well as looking for a job, without success. But I might just have blinders on, preventing me from seeing my value and the kinds of opportunities I might explore.
Are there any career coaches who understand the PP principles? I don’t want to talk to someone who thinks things are just going to go back to “normal.” If I retained a coach, it would need to be someone who could advise me with the understanding that the future is going to look very different than it does today.
Hello Allen. A true “coach” isn’t going to advise you, but rather they will help you thinking through what’s important to you and where you really want to go by asking you probing questions. Given the PP slant, that may be better for you than someone who’s used to giving mass advice. If that’s appealing to you, look for someone with an ICF (International Coaching Federation) credential. The ICF requires that coaches be trained this way, and you’ll get someone who helps you decide what YOU want, rather than telling you what others want.
I’ve got a passion around this, so message me if you have questions. I don’t have an ICF credential yet (working on it), but I can tell you what to look for.
