My husband and I are in our late 30’s living on 12.5 acres in Milton, Vermont just north of Burlington. We have converted a small orchard into a food forest and it’s coming along nicely. Looking for others nearby to discuss alternative systems (food forests, bartering, etc.) Would also love to meet up with experienced organic, no till or permaculture gardeners/farmers in search of land. We have about 6,000 sq feet of overgrown garden space that we don’t have time to develop since we both work full time and most of our focus is going into the food forest. Would be perfect for anyone wanting to grow food for a market garden or the community. Would love to meet up with other like minded people nearby!

Gosh, wish I was there. But how do you deal with a 3-month growing season and the deer? Also, would you describe what your ideal food forest is structured ie for NE?

Structure of Food Forest doesn’t much change relative to Climate – Still thinking in terms of layers but in NE probably going to think about letting more light into the canopy layer. I’m just in the process of selling my land in Vermont. I’m told the FF I put in 7 years ago has matured and really taken off the way it’s designed to do. I’m certain the neglect has done nothing but help it. Wish I could see it one last time….

I’m in Montpelier.  I’m not actively looking to drastically change my situation, but am interested in local PP goings on.

I’m gradually working with my small property – 700sf garden, berries, fruit and nut trees.
