This is HUGE.

Big companies are realizing AND admitting that they can’t afford to lose skilled employees, and are pushing back. Expect this to ripple through to the automotive supply chain, which are compromised of a lot of companies. I believe this is a watershed moment.

Agreed, this is huge, especially when viewed in concert with the legal stays that stopped Biden’s vaccine mandate on large employers nationally.  Now employers are feeling emboldened to act in their own interest – more will follow.

They will have to relent on salaried folks too otherwise they will lose them to other companies.

This.  My parents work for a major health care provider in town that is in an ecosystem of unionized medical workers.  Even though her hospital does not have unionized workers, and does not support that model, you can be damn sure the employees there benefit from all other hospitals being unionized.

if the other hospitals increase wages or benefits, the non-unionized ones inevitably have to follow suit, otherwise risk losing their employees. They get the benefits of union wages/benefits without being in a union.

100% – salaried “exemption” will follow.

The competition for skill and talent in the automotive industry is fierce. A company that missteps will lose valuable talent to other companies. None of them can afford that, let alone, re-training all the new hires. It would throw a major wrench in project timelines.
