    Biden’s Inauguration dinner

Apparently, according to reliable unnamed sources, Biden’s inauguration dinner will feature egg foo yung, Kung Pow chicken, and egg rolls. It has yet to be disclosed whether each guest will receive a fortune cookie.

A request – no politics?

Also kind of a site rule.  Politics really lead nowhere in terms of fostering a civil conversation about the many (huge) predicaments we face.

I’ll be saying more about censorship on the site soon, but it’s a real thing, and I still have this quaint, unrealistic goal of reaching many more people of every sort of persuasion.

Hopefully things cool off and we can get back to equal opportunity harpooning of those who are failing to lead adequately which, I might note, is a skill set I see liberally sprinkled on both sides of the aisle.

Chris,
I agree with you. I would refine your point just a bit by saying, No

    Partisan

Politics. The “Bipolar Model” certainly hasn’t got us anywhere good, has it?

It’s clear to me, at least, that all that has been tried already,
and it’s basically gotten us nowhere positive. Where it HAS gotten us
is divided into two camps, neither of which wants to hear anything
the other camp has to say. Going “for the throat” seems to be the kind of discourse I see, on both sides.

My sister and I are on nearly opposite poles of the political spectrum.
Yet, she is still my sister. That is something that can’t change.
The only thing that CAN change is how we deal with each other, the things we are willing to talk about, and the things we choose not to say.

This is the sort of thing I’ve tried to open up with her. We’ll see how it goes.

As always, I read with interest everything I see on this site, and I think it’s tremendously valuable to see all perspectives.

Chuck

Count me in for the “no partisan” politics too.   If the joke is “A new bus station clown replaces the old one”, that might be another matter :>

The events in 2006-2009 and in my personal life broke open my mind to beginning to see what people are capable of.   I still came out of it thinking that there were limits to how far things could go most of the time.

2020 put an end to that.   I’ve realized more fully that absolutely *anything* is possible in the political and economic realms.   Furthermore Ive realized that ther is no limit to what people can overtly process as “normal” or “acceptable”.   The average Joe cannot escape the psychological consequences of being locked in his house for 6 months or having to produce pandemic paperwork to engage in the world, but he is perfectly capable of seeming to adapt to it.   There is no chance of sanity erupting organically care of the man in the street.

I want to be around people who can show me how things are rather than (just) bitch about how they ought to be.  I can do that last part on my own quite well.   If we are in a war, I want to know when the grenade is incoming, not just “how awful the enemy is”.   Truth is, I don’t know who the good guys even are in this story except for a few individuals.

Today was a hard one.  Seeing that American health journal discover the effectiveness of HCQ on the day Trump leaves office feels like one of those “everything you need to know” moments.

Wotthecurtains,

I just read your comment and the mention of the American health journal discovering the effectiveness of HCQ.  I though I read about this in an earlier post on PP today, but can’t for the life of me find that comment now.  Can you post a link to that story?

Thanks

Nick
