Leunig CANCELLED by The Age over anti-Dan cartoon [rebelnews.com]

One of Australia’s most successful cartoonists has been taken off the Monday front page for creating editorial cartoons critical of Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and the state’s Covid health orders.

“The way it was done was rude. It was a pretty blunt, discourteous and frustrating way to have a half-century of editorial cartooning at The Age brought to an end,” said Leunig of his cancellation. “My greatest dismay in all of this is the wretched state of cartooning and humour in The Age. It’s as if they want to destroy or subjugate cartooning.”

I’m considering my next move. SA, NSW or Queensland.. not sure where but I’m thinking anywhere but VIC. It’s getting a bit too over the top bananas here.

    Would welcome the discussion KJF

When they start trying to gag the court jester they really are getting desperate.

I’m seeing the emergence of Three Australias at this point, or is it just Two? I’d welcome any commentary/discussion of the alternative trajectories of the different Australian states/territories in this thread:

Only 2 active cases, Yet West Australia Vaccine Mandates 75 percent of Workforce [peakprosperity.com]

South Australia (SA)(Liberal) is a bit of a dark horse, which I’ve neglected discussing to this point, with a state election March 2022 (about the same time as the Federal Election presumably).

I suspect that QLD might join Victoria and WA as the ultra-draconian Labor states, with, afterall, a Female Labor Premier (think Jacinda). Though I guess there are perhaps confounding variables like the presence of Clive, Pauline and even Bob Katter. Is anyone providing betting odds on this sort of thing?

The crazy thing is that the Age is an extremely liberal and left wing paper, and Leunig has been solidly left wing for 50 years. There’s probably not an inner city melbournite that doesn’t have a leunig cartoon stuck to their fridge.

SA isn’t a Dark horse we’re just slow to implement what other states are doing.

It’s kind of ironic – France & other nations defend the right to publish inflammatory cartoons mocking Islam – but don’t you dare satirise the Holy Needle.

@red-flare

Well, its good to see that we now have someone covering the Southern front. I haven’t really heard much about SA, except for the recent Lt. col. Bosi insurrection. An Australian Rambo. I hope he takes them all out.

Obviously, Leunig is not left leaning enough. He dared to question Chairman Dan. The contemporary left isn’t exactly pluralistic.

Which other states, or do you think that they are all doing the same thing?  I’d certainly be interested in knowing where SA fits into this.
