A doctor in Mi about testing!
A close friend who is family physician with a large Michigan health provider, told me how they are handling testing! First she still works at a clinic not an ER. If someone shows up at clinic with serious Corona symptoms they are sent to ER. If they have mild potential Corona symptoms they are sent home and told to self quarantine. If they think you have Corona you don’t get in the door. So with this provider only the worst cases are tested and testing takes five days.
It seems that in Michigan it is being left to health providers to do testing and at least with this particular health provider they are electing to minimize current staff exposure which will only make it worse in the future. I’m sure the social distancing in Michigan is having some effect in slowing the spread but at least in Michigan numbers will continue to grow substantially.
My daughter (44) lives in SE MI. She got sick about 6 days ago. She called her Dr. on the 3rd day and he said she more than likely had the coronavirus. By her symptoms, he said a mild case. I had to question the “mild” diagnosis. She was having difficulty breathing, bad headache, and exhaustion. On a video chat with me, I could tell she was having trouble talking and had dark circles under her eyes. He told her to stay at home, no need to go get tested and call 911 if it got to the point she couldn’t breathe. I wonder how many doctors in MI are telling their patients the same thing. The numbers do not include these people. Today I talked to her and her breathing was a little better but she felt like she’d been kicked by a mule all over her body.
