The History channel is advertising a "big event" to take place next Monday, May 25.

I have no idea what will be shown but I do know that on May 25, the History channel shows event on this date – Decoding The Past: Mayan Doomsday Prophecy

I don’t see the connection between the above trailer and the Mayan Doomsday Phrophecy. Note the spooky Illuminati eye at the end.  Thought some in this thread might be interested…

This is much the same as the thousands digit changing 9 years ago and the great worry about Y2K bug I think you will find.

I have made cycles a life time study, see http://ray.tomes.biz , and I don’t find any evidence for anything special in 2012 like the end of the world. Many of these people are also on about the increasing Schumann resonance frequency which is very definitely not actually happening. The Schumann frequency oscillates a bit each day and each year and also varies over the 11 year sunspot cycle. Other than that there is no trend upwards. Many of these people just copy their stuff off other web pages so that a lot of web pages are now copies of copies of copies of copies of … – I kid you not, I have traced them back that far.

Worry about the real problems of the world such as starvation, stupidity, war, greed and the like, not imaginary ones.

Ray – is the Schumann resonance frequency, the Earth hum, as I have heard it called other places? Have you heard of Zecharia Sitchin?

Larry – History channel plays bogus material on this stuff all the time. Probably for ratings. I have seen one or two of them already. I watched one of them, this was after I had already done research, but much of the content had already been disproved by most reputable scientists, and they still show it. All this stuff came from the same guy, now its kind of morphed. Just my opinion though, who knows. Maybe 2012 will be some kind of transition, when we take back America

Original creator of 2012, Zecharia Sitchin – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zecharia_Sitchin

The Earth hum is a low frequency sound heard by only some people. I don’t think that it has any connection to the Schumann resonance. It is more likely to do with buildings that have particular dimensions that vibrate as a result.

I had not heard of Sitchin before your comment.

The Schumann resonance is an accepted scientific fact, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schumann_resonance and it does vary slightly but is not on an upward trend over time as these people have often claimed.

Agreed, the history channel would be really great – if they stuck to real history and not the bunk we see all too often.  Hopefully, we’ll take our country back before then, but I’d settle for that date!

SPM –

In the undersea surveillance community, we have been listening to a type of Earth hum for years – the source of what we refer to as "Earth hum" is the tectonic plate rumble, down in the 20-25Hz range.

Not sure that this is the be all, end all answer for what Earth hum is and where it comes from, but it is one source.

There are some amateur electronics guys that study ELF (Extra Low Frequency) and ULF (Ultra Low Frequency) waves that are getting moderately good at detecting earthquakes before and after they happen. One of the best frequencies for this is around 2 Hz, but of course that is well below human hearing whereas your 20-25 Hz is the limit of what we can hear.

Oh we are wandering further from the topic, and nearer to sanity.  🙂
