Presented by Cooper J. Kessel

This seminar is presented in a four-part series and is based on the works of Chris Martenson, whose background as a research scientist led him to explore the inner workings of America’s financial system and resource base.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of this seminar, you will be able to:

  • Understand why our economic system is having difficulties
  • Know the relationship of fossil fuels to your future prosperity
  • Put environmental and climate change issues in perspective
  • Have a basic framework for taking action

MAIN LEARNING POINTS

  • The creation of money and how the Federal Reserve System functions
  • The exponential growth function and how it relates to your life
  • The economy and your prosperity
  • The role energy plays in our quality of life
  • Dealing with the issues facing us in the next twenty years
  • Developing an action plan for yourself, your family and our community
  • Differentiating between independence and dependence and the pursuit of happiness

Often a person will have difficulty getting into action regarding solutions while they are dealing with the emotions prior to acceptance. Having accepted a particular problem or predicament one can then begin applying the human creative potential toward its solution or outcome. May the force be with you all!

PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

While studying architecture at CalPoly University in San Luis Obispo, Cooper recognized that man has a responsibility to consider his impact on the environment.   As his Senior Project, he and two fellow students developed the curriculum for and taught a class on “Environmental Awareness” which subject was not widely recognized as being something relevant to the needs of the time.

Following his graduation in 1972, Cooper moved back to Sonora and worked in his father’s building design company, but found it difficult to find a market for his passion, the design of solar, energy efficient homes.  By 1973 the Oil Embargo had occurred and people were, for the first time, becoming aware that there could be problems securing the resources they needed to live in traditional homes.  Cooper decided to get involved in construction so he could experiment with different design solutions on his own projects, and after having built his first passive solar design, and his own home, he obtained his General Building Contractor’s license in 1977.  At that time he began providing design/build services for residential clients interested in solar and energy efficient homes and eventually earned his registration as an Architect in 1984.  Now, he was able to expand his design/build services to include commercial projects, and named his newly incorporated business, ALTERNATIVE ENERGY DESIGNS, INC.  He then established COOPER KESSEL, Architect & Associates and A.E.D. CONSTRUCTION as the separate business divisions that provide each portion of the design/build service.
