According to climate change writer Joe Romm (as referred by Albert Bates) the new target of limiting global warming to only 1.5 degrees C instead of 2 degrees is both increasingly accepted, and has serious implications.  Romm says that "key climate solutions — renewables, efficiency, electric cars, and storage — have been advancing considerably faster than anyone expected, much faster than the academic literature anticipated." Data about climate change impacts such as ice melting freaked out a lot of scientists, and changed the UN discussions.
