Growing microgreens

By brinyc on Sun, Nov 1, 2015 - 10:00am

I am interested in growing microgreens at home. These radish, pea, sunflower, buchwheat microgreens are extremely nutricious and are an inexpensive way to start food production.

I am very much a newbie to food cultivation.

I recently purchased a  flourescent light system

and am following the growing advice from Chris Thoreau´s videos

I was wondering if anybody has experience at growing microgreens at home?

What methods have they used to safely heat the plants at home.

As I live in an old apartment in Spain without central heating I am considering my options to heat the plants while I am out during the day.

Oil heaters look too dangerous to leave on without supervision.

Anybody with experience of growing microgreens at home

All the best

Cold weather plants

Have you tried cold weather plants?

Eliot Coleman has a system of growing through the winter in Maine and he grows plants that don't mind the cold. Things like mache, spinach, kale and some lettuces will grow pretty well for him even in a very cold climate. Worth a look at the "Winter Harvest Handbook".
