Taking the plunge

After years of wanting to build our own coop today we bit the bullet and bought a small premade one. I already have the Backyard Chickens book. Our neighbor raises Orrpingtons (not sure what color) so we will start with some of them. I understand they go broody often.

Congrats on taking the plunge!  We've been chicken owners for 2 years now and are definitely glad we made the move.  I predict you will be too.

we have a variety of chickenbreeds but one of our reds and our orpington have both already raised chicks.  It's quite fun to watch that process.

You won't regret it!

We jumped in this year and have one rooster and 15 hens. We've had a few challenges with predators (I've lost 4 in the last 6 months) but I believe vigilance is finally winning!

Good luck with your new flock!

Are you raising chicks or getting hens raised by your neighbor?

I sure miss fresh eggs while I wait for my new batch of chicks to grow up!
